Federation Target: Tatooine

Post by Trekdestroyer »

Ok, so the feddies realize that trying to take Corusacant is out of the picture. They then realize that Tatooine would be easy to invade and a relativly unguarded planet. Although warp travel is slower than hyperdrive, they reach tatooine. They approach the planet without any issues. The question is: Does Tatooine fall or does the invasion end in an enormous flop? Now you must realize that Tatooine has a skeleton base and a partial garrison for policing the population, but no real militia. I know this is not my best description or my best grammer, but please ignore any minor mistakes you may see and think about the scenario.

At worst, the local garrison holds out until reinforcements arrive.

Tatooine would fall easily. Whether they could hold Tatooine against an Imperial counter-attack is a different matter entirely.

Not to disagree with you, but the escaping rebels attracted the attention of several star destroyers that attepted to capture them. Backup would come very easily given the speed of hyperspace and if the garrison commander signals for help before the fighting gets bad. In my opinion, the feddies would run for their lives and it would end in an imperial victory.

The escaping freighter caught the attention of at least three ISDs in orbit that may have been members of Devastator's task force.

Since Tatooine has only a handful of (small) population centres, no real orbital defenses, no planetary shield, a minimal garrison, and no defensive orbital platforms or spacecraft, how the hell could they hold out for even a few hours against a determined Federation assault with orbital fire support? Tatooine is a worthless backwater; the Empire isn't going to rush a sector fleet there at the first sign of trouble. By the time they showed up in force, the Feddies would have control of the planet, for whatever it's worth (which is not much).

I'll concede my point. I would've thought that an attack by an unknown alien organization would have been cause for some concern, and they would've been a little more expedient in sending reinforcements.

Then again, human redshirts don't look very alien.

Though they would certainly be unknown and utterly strange to the SW universe. The Imperials would come eventually, if only to figure out who had the audacity to attack a territory of the Empire with those insanely frail "starships."

They could take it, but they'd have a shit-load of trouble holding it even if the Empire didn't come back with a counter-attack.

Alot of the spacers, smugglers, criminals etc. on Tatooine, are probably more than a match for a Feddie Redshirt in fighting ability. Then there's the Sandpeople to consider, any Imperials they failed to kill in the initial strike, and any other hazards.

So, IMHO, they'd take it, then quickly realize it wasn't worth the effort to try and hold onto it, and would pack up and leave without the Imps even having to come back.

Yeah, they could take it...but Jabba will likely not like their ideas on crime and call in more then a few favors to get rid of the Federation.

*Pictures a few Intrepid-class starships landing in Mos Eisley*

Three hours later, a bit of the city's destroyed. Wuher's serving out drinks to the smugglers, who are carrying a few extra scars. The Jawas are busily stripping Starfleet corpses. Slicers are playing about with the computer cores, while the ships are taken apart around them. The local garrison, having heard a pretty big commition, shows up and collects their usual percentage, this time in a bunch of brand-new prisoners for the Emperor's labor units. The rest of the prisoners are busy scrubbing a few smuggler craft clean... with their tongues.

I know, this isn't *that* realistic, but hell, I couldn't help but picture the comedy potential... :D

Whenever I see Trektards claiming their militaries could actually invade the SW galaxy, Tatooine is about all I'll ever grant them.

How many ships are we talking anyway? Because we need to remember that, for one (to the best of my knowledge) the Feds really only have transporters and shuttles to move troops. On top of that, this is Tatooine. They have more battle hardened smugglers and bounty hunters then you can shake a stick at and the locals are probably good with a gun as well. Sure the Feds can take it, but casualties are going to be high. They'll keep it for about three days, if that, before Jabba gets upset and sends in whatever troops and ships he has to clean the Feds off his planet.

The Feds take this if they devote an entire fleet, but not without losses to local farmboys flying old Z-95 Headhunters. The local smugglers bug out at the first opportunity and aren't the type to stay and fight.

I would think they would stay and fight over having to blast their way through an entire fleet.

The fleet would have to catch them. IMHO if a smuggler saw a massive fleet approaching i'd not stay and take sensor readings i'd head straight to Nar Shadda and wait for the news.

Yeah, if they had time to bug out I'd definately see them doing it. But if they're sitting at the bar then all the sudden 5 guys in redshirts appear, they're probably going to stick around and find a nice place to dissappear to on planet for a few days after avoiding/killing any groups of Redshirts they come across.

If their ships and or cargos were threatened they would certainly stay and fight, although they would most likely sit around and wait to see if they could profit from this takeover before taking off.

Besides Tatooine being effectively worthless, the Federation would have another unfortunate side effect of taking the planet, and that is clashing with the Hutts. I don't think the UFP has enough muscle to keep the Hutts from getting bold (especially when compared to the Empire), and I imagine the Hutts would leap (figuratively speaking) at such an opportunity to grab a bit more power for themselves. In order to hold the planet for a long time (assuming no outside interference from the Empire), the Federation would either have to give the crime bosses a little room (at which point the Hutts take more space), or get involved in a protracted gangland war, only with a rather sizeable arsenal on the side of the criminals.

But I think I may have deviated slightly off topic, since the question was whether the Federation could take Tatooine and not whether it could hold it. I think they probably could, particularly the moisture farms and wastes, but there'd be a bit of a problem in the cities (where it seems as though everyone's armed).

The Federation will be able to take over the planet initially.

However, some smuggler trying to get away will get caught in a tractor beam, fire his weapons, and blow a huge hole in the tractor beaming ship when his Proton Torpedoe hits it.

The smugglers will be like 'What the hell'

The bounty hunters will say 'Hey, I've got an idea'.....

Imagine if Boba Fett was flying over Tattooine and realised these are alien ships he can trash the Emperor might pay for prisoners from....

They could take it with some losses. They probably begin terraforming it, but that will take holding onto it will be problematic. The Hutts command fleets of pirate ships that i have no doub't could go up against Starfleet. The best thing they could do is make a deal with some hutt crimelord giving them all the stuff they plundered from Jabba, as well as a Akira class ship and holodeck tech.

Why would anyone deal, when they could just take it? These ARE crimelords, after all.

Why would they want an Akira? Surfboard? Egg beater?

Something fun for the little Huttlings to take their luxury parties on? A nice little intersystem yacht? Certainly can't say Starfleet ships don't tend to be on the comfortable side as compared to what OT Wars crafts we've seen... :D
