Most flexible form(spoilers).

Post by Lord Revan »

In Clone war season Count Dooku urges Gen Grievous to "use the unorthodox".

so which Lightsaber form would you think to be the best suited for this kind of combat and which would be the least suited and why so (for both)?

EDIT:OK just give an example Form 7 would probaly be the best, but it's quite har to master. were as form 2, 3 & 6 are probalt not good as they forms that stick more certain rules.

EDIT 2:changed the title to better describe the thread.

Grevious's typical method of giving his enemy 20 slashes per second from his four blades. Right into the meat grinder...
Why wonder why? The answer is simple: obviously, someone somewhere decided that he or she needed Baby Jesus up the ass.

which is absolutly irrelevant if those slashes come in predictable patern (that was Dooku's point). Also you didn't answer the OP.

They don't. However, no jedi recognised form uses four lightsabers. so, not likely to affect him.

Anyway Grievous was an example of the point, since it might possible for a (Dark) Jedi to replicate Grievous' method, but using less then 4 sabers.

So which form would be best for unorthodox lightsaber combat and which would be the worst (and why so)?

Yoda's form 4 probably. Kinda hard to block when your opponent is bouncing around like a super-ball.

Though if you're not Yoda, you'll get tired from using it, and eventually die (like all the Form 4 Jedi in the arena did). 1 is a useless training form, 2 is far too specialized for dueling, and not as good against blasters, and 3 is focussed too much on defensive. So, we have remaining 7 (discounted in the OP), 6 (Diplomat's style, takes long to learn and is not that great, all Jedi with this in the arena also died), and Form 5, which is similar to 3, but with more emphasis on attacking.

5 it is.

YT, you forgot something. Grevious is pretty much a robot. He isn't gonna get tired.

From the Clone Wars episodes, Grevious definately switches into form 4. No way it could be anything else.

EDIT: It could also be a weird form 2. Considering he is supposed to be fighting Jedi and only Jedi, as we saw in Episode 21, he doesn't bother blocking blasters (or can't) so 3 is out, 6 is a shitty form. 5 is possible though unlikely. 7 is another possibility, but form 4 and 2 are most likely.

Obi-Wan's circa ANH (whatever the fuck form it's called - 3?). Look at how he was holding Vader back; he simply kept his lightsabre between him and his opponent. Resting comfortably infront of his waist, pointed at the other guy's chest/throat.

'Oh what's that? You want to hack my head off? Well look as I just effortlessly step forward and tear you a new one from groin to throat, because my defence is your first fucking obstical retard."

Remember kids; there's a reason why Obi-Wan is the Mack-Daddy of Star Wars. :D 8)

Indeed he is. And if Old Obi-Wan Unleashed ever comes out, I will immediately buy it, because Obi-Wan is the badass of badasses. :D

Anyway, yes, Form 3 is definately the best of the forms (just keep blocking until your opponent makes a mistake, then disembowel). But as has been noted, Grevious definately doesn't use it Crown.

I thought we were discussing the opponent's of Grevious, and what form would be best to use against him, not what form he uses.

My bad all.

Yeah... I thought the thread just about what form would be best for a Jedi. For Grievous, I guess Form 3.

*shakes fist at the language barrier* You mean what form would a Jedi use to defeat Grevious?

If so, I'm gonna have to go with Form 4 or 2 actually. Form 3 is the best in general, but Grevious' style is practically built to break up a form 3's defense. "Get me off balance, break my center." Both of which are vastly important to a practitioner of Form 3, and with 4 lightsabers he can do it. With forms 4 and 2, center is less important.

No, but form would be the best if a Jedi is faced with taking on more powerfull Force user by him-/herself (basically what Grievous has to do exept he's not a Force user, so every Force user is more powerfull then him).

For those of you who have the ROTS novelization this question is actually answered in chapter 15, pages 293-295. It answers what forms Grievous likely uses and what the best form to defeat him is.

You know, the most flexible option would be to master multiple forms and use them depending on which opponents you face. Don't know quite how well that'd work though (if I were personally a Jedi, I feel as though by the time I mastered a few forms, I'd probably look at a potential duel and think "I'm too old for this shit.")

Yoda uses form 4 to address the issue of his stature and reach, I imagine other form 4 users do likewise.. hell were there even any other confirmed form 4 users in the Arena? I know almost all the Form 6 users got killed, but no mention on 4.

IIRC, The Insider article mentioned that both Form users died (except for Yoda, naturally).

I'm pretty sure the article only mentioned form 6 users as all dying in that fight. But I don't have the article on hand so I can't check.

My point was that Grevious, when sending that much of a volume of slashes at an opponent, would be simply trying to make them have to concentrate very hard to simply block all of the slashes. Sufficient quantity can overwhelm quality.
