Im betting sw. what with such a big hive of scum and villany, the huttlords, the tusken tribes, and assorted pirates and idealistic farmboys (tm), the feds will be hurting.

the feds might land a few thousand troops, but redshirts dont do well against heavy weapons, and starfleet wont handle against half a dozen fighters.

It really depends when they attack and who's in charge, if the Hutts are still in charge and they have a few ship ownering bounty hunter on hand then the federation are screwed.

From the various novels, Jabba actually outfitted Fetts slave one with host of Weapons, ranging from stealth fields and concussion missiles, and Fett was just one of a dozen of active bountry hunters in Jabba employment. And from EU it seem that every one of these bounty hunters had crafts with weapons systems matching Fett's

If the Imperial are in charge, and they only have a few system patrol craft guarding the system it may be a costly adventure for the federation, Even an system patrol craft has several turbolasers and would outgun the largest of federation warship.

We're talking a terribly unimportant planet... even the Feddies could take this, honestly. This is the equivilent of asking if say.. dunno, Iceland could conquer random town, Nevada, if that place was isolated. Redshirts will stack up like firewood no doubt, but they could quite easilly glass over the tiny settlements on Tattooine, even with soda-straw phasers. Or kiloton torpedoes. Then woo. SAND! More Sand for the federation war machine!

I'm thinking help would come most certainly from Nar Shaddaa (and other Hutt holdouts, like Klatooine or Kintan) after Jabba makes some noise, Coruscant might just sit this one out, might even allow the Hutts to "police their own" even if crime syndicates are considered illegal.

This would be true if it wasn't for the fact that the local citizen of town in question had the equivalent of nukes to use against the invading Icelanders.

I would almost think that the Empire would actually concede the planet, let the Feds waste time, troops, and resources to try and hold the planet and then blockade the system. Then they let the Hutts or some other group affected by the blockade to do the dirty work.

Sounds like the most logical strategy. Why do all the work for something you don't really care about that much anyways, when the people who live there'll do it for you?
