My main gripe is entirely a personal opinion-- I always thought that the Empire had been around for *much* longer, and that Anakin was actually around fiftyish. I don't remember the Republic being mentioned in ANH, so (conceivably) the Jedi could've lasted some time in the Empire before being purged. This raises holy hell with Luke and Leia's ages, though... I'm comfortable with the PT as it is, though I do rather regret the holes and difficulties within it.
It's a strange world. Let's keep it that way.

Did you miss the part in ANH when Ben says:
BEN: An elegant weapon for a more civilized time. For over a thousand
generations the Jedi Knights were the guardians of peace and justice
in the Old Republic. Before the dark times, before the Empire.
Wherever you go, there you are.

Ahem. Yeah, I know, I formed that opinion before I seriously started getting geeky about the movies... I wasn't terribly good about such details when I was younger...

All in all, though, the fact that Obi-Wan and Anakin don't particularly get along doesn't bother me.

By the time of the OT we already know Obi-Wan has a rather cynical definition of 'truth', at least in regards to what he tells Luke. Frankly I think it would have been a very short trilogy if he had been honest.

<Luke> You knew my father?
<Ben> Your father? Yeah, I knew him. He was my Padawan, and the biggest dick in the Jedi Order.
<Luke> Uhm.....
<Ben> No, I'm serious. He never listened to a word I said, whined constantly like a little bitch, and had a massive superiority complex. When I first met him he was a cute kid, then several years of 'you are the chosen one!' got to his head and he thought he was God's gift to the Jedi.
<Luke> .....
<Ben> You...aren't going to be going to Alderaan with me, are you?
<Luke> HELL no![/i]
