FYI: Battle Beyond the Stars is a sci-fi B-ish movie from 1980
Oh man, I forgot all about this movie. I saw it when I was a kid on TV.

Someone jokingly made a Galaxy that a tree of about 32 nacelles. Needless to say, it looks like it would fall apart the moment it moved an inch out of drydock.

No, that wouldn't solve the problem: you'd still have angular momentum transfer to the central spaceframe, which means you have to have contrarotating flywheels to bleed off that force acting against the rest of the ship. And it would cost extra energy to get the rotational section up and spinning.

Moreover, the existence of a massive rotating section secured only by a central bearing means enormous structural stresses upon acceleration (both on the bearing and on the rotating section itself) regardless of whether it is spinning or not. All of the acceleration force for the entire rotating secton must be applied on the bearing.

The situation gets even worse when the ship attempts to maneuver with the spinning section already in motion.

I can only say that whoever designed that ship was a hentai to the nth degree.

I don't know about you or anyone else on this board, but I think that ship is a product of hentai-ness.

Any ship that is supposed to be highly maneuverable but has buttons instead of a joystick.

As does the Constellation. Its quite obvious that it uses some other form of Impulse drives that aren't obvious like the ones we know of on the GCS and other ships.

Really. Its got the same design parts as the GCS but in a smaller area for shield space which makes for better shields. Its got greater torpedo capacity and theoretically can even be armed with 8 additional launchers in the pod.

If you think thats fucked up, then you likely have a low opinion of everything from ST.

I was under the understanding that we hadn't seen the entirity of the Constellation.

At any rate, even if they do have some different type of impulse drive, I still think they're poor designs at some level because they force us to rationalize this inconsistency.

Hell, we don't even SEE the Impulse engines on the Defiant. They are shielded by armor. The Nebula has a more war like design to it over the Galaxy and its entirely possible the Nebula has an armored engine like the Defiant.

personally i like the Nebula Class ship. She's a hell of a lot better than the GCS in combat. Also we never see Nebulas have warp core failures. She even looks like a tough ship. As far as the impulse engines, she probably uses the two impulse engines that a Galaxy Saucer uses( since they use the same saucer). I'd say if a GCS ever tried to fight a Nebula, the GCS would get its ass kicked so bad they'd attach the Enterprise-D's saucer to a Nebula Secondary hull and scrap the Galaxies for more material to build Nebula Class ships.

damn! ain't that a kick in the head

still its a nice design even though the effects people need to light the Impules engines on the thing. I have a Nebula Model and the engines on the saucer are colored in. The shadow from the Pod is hiding where the engines i'm talking about should be.

Take a look at the Nebula scans on EAS. None of the models have saucer cutouts for impulse engines.

Another problem with the modern Nebula subtypes is that the pod support obstructs access to the main shuttle bay. Anyone flying a shuttle into or out of the main bay better be wide awake unless they want to have a chunky salsa experience.
