Have the rebels won fair fight (spoilers)
Before the Empire self-destructed after the battle of Endor, had the Rebel Alliance ever won a "fair"* fight against the Empire (*by by "fair" I mean straight capture or defense mission with out an "ace in the sleeve").

What is this mythical creature known as a 'fair fight'? If you attack, you always hope to have better forces - numbers, strength, quality, whatever - than the other guy. If you're the other guy, and you don't have the better forces, then you're attacking because you're desperate, but more likely you're not attacking at all, but defending.

In the opening credits of ANH the theft of the Death Star Plans where describes as the Alliances 1st victory. Also in the Thrawn Trilogy Han Solo talkas about a Bothan "task force keeping a Victory Class Destroyer busy untill a couple of Star Cruisers could drive it off" from that i assume that there where many skirmishes but few if any pitched battles.

Would the Battle of Tiems count? 4 Imperial infantry regiments (no-name local general) attacking vs 3 Rebel regiments (Rieekan) defending in fair terrain. That's not a good COF for the Imperial force, but it seems conventional and the Rebs did win, destroying two regiments for the losses equivalent to one regiment by their reckoning, as well as making the Imp general more cautious for a favorable COF with a full combined arms attack, and by then they escaped.Lord Revan wrote:Before the Empire self-destructed after the battle of Endor, had the Rebel Alliance ever won a "fair"* fight against the Empire (*by by "fair" I mean straight capture or defense mission with out an "ace in the sleeve").
See RASB Ch 6.
How many battles before ANH can they have won, if the movie-trailer tells of exactly ONE?
The optimist thinks, that we live in the best of all possible worlds and the pessimist is afraid, that this is true.

Saying they have scored an important victory does not mean they have fought and won no other battles. Appeal to Ignorance.FTeik wrote:How many battles before ANH can they have won, if the movie-trailer tells of exactly ONE?

That said, the quote is "Rebel spaceships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire." Oddly enough, this would appear to be the battle in Dark Forces: Soldier of the Empire which consisted of one rebel ship and one future-jedi, as this was where the Death Star plans were aquired though it is doubtless possible that a larger battle was involved at some stage.Illuminatus Primus wrote:Saying they have scored an important victory does not mean they have fought and won no other battles. The plans were retrieved through several different means. Intel corroboration, most likely.

Offhand, I recall Katarn's mission, and another one on Toprawa, were there more?
