I'm not sure, but there has been a definite rise in trolling. I assume it has something to do with the school year drawing to a close.

And remarkably one-sided, which does suggest something about the quality of trolls we've gotten lately. They don't even seem interested in hiding their intentions; look at how Cabwi proudly admitted that he was trying to change the subject to my personal history even though it had nothing to do with the current thread.

At worst, you've been knee-jerk apologetic on Catholic issues. But you don't turn it into 'You're just an evaaaaal atheist!' or proudly proclaim you won't discuss things within the rules of sanity. Has anyone else noticed Mike's patience is getting shorter? I remember (back in the day), when there'd be entire threads where trolls teetered on the brink. Obvious trolls lurked around for weeks. The Imperial Smackdown was the Final Solution. Even unrepentant trolls could avoid the ban by shutting up for a while. Now it's in realtime: if your trolling gets noticed, you won't get another thread: you might not even get another post. It's all very fast-paced and exciting.

AND I STILL MISS OUT!

And Troy, don't worry. I didn't think *I* contributed anything here either, and I'm still kinda surprised people even know who I am!

It depends on how the troll amuses Mike. Revprez is perhaps one of the worst trolls to show up on SD.net, and Mike found him highly entertaining for quite some time so we had to put up with (or rather watch him get gutted time and time again) for a while.

You have to keep in mind that trolls seemed to try harder to look like real debaters back then. Even the white-supremacist troll Arminius tried to put up a pretense of making arguments, citing sources, answering rebuttals, etc. The most recent batch of trolls state opinions rather than arguments, and then they get all pissy when they're expected to actually defend their positions. That's one of the reasons I sometimes just unceremoniously kick someone out on his ass; if he's not even trying, then we're certainly not missing out on anything if he's dumped.

That's a good point: poor Desco had four pages of 'OMG removing 'God' from the Pledge or money is discriminating against Christians! j00 all hat3 Christians!'. I think some of it's age(of troll), but I think it's also related to the fact that SDN has changed since the beginning, and it isn't a 'vs forum with other bits' anymore, so the trolls aren't as often vs trolls, but religious nutbags or bigots or whatever. That leaves you less room to maneuveur.

As an aside, I know alot of people who post almost exclusively on this board, and only in the non-scifi parts. Wierd, since they have to have conversations with people about their... say, abortion debate, that they had on Stardestroyer.net. Your average cafe debater doesn't know how to react to a source like that!

The board was created almost three years ago; considering all the 'everyone's opinion is equal' schlock they're teachching these days, it's safe to assume we'll see even more three years hence. Oh well, most outright trolls stuck around too long anyway.

I've seen pictures of Galvatron on this board in the last week than I've seen on my two regular Transformers boards in the last month combined. "A ban-thread, Wong? This is bad comedy."
