To Create or Destroy, an ISD what-if

Post by Crossroads Inc. »

This idea from and idea for a Fanfic I thought of long ago, but never got around to doing…

You are the captain of an ISD-Mk1, you have just set out from port and you are fully stocked. A few weeks out, a dues-ex pulls your ship to a far away Galaxy… ((no, not the StarTrek Galaxy)) Scanners tell you are stranded, no hope of going back at all… After some exploration with probe droids, you find yourself in the middle of a large group of civilizations, slightly above B5 tech.

Your ship has ‘almost’ everything it needs to, over time, build up its own civilization.

With the ISD’s hyperdrive, you can choose any from the mostly empty Galaxies’ worlds to settle on, and build an Empire. Or, you could try and raid and conquer some of the space fairing civilizations. But, you are only one ship.

So the question is which path do you take? Destroy and conquer, or try and build? Or, perhaps a third path of your own design? Me? I am mainly interested in how others will try and fully utilize the resources of a lone ISD.

I would at first raid and conquer...Hell if I've got the most powerful ship in the galaxy then I should be able to build a small empire. Then I would settle down and relax with my crew. After we die it dosent matter what happens to are small empire so really who cares how it is run, or maintained.

The crew of a single ship is not much of a seed for a civilization, especially not when compared to the resources that are already available for exploitation.

I would say that you'd be best off conquering, but trying to do in as bloodless a manner as possible. Find civilizations that are most similar to your own and then start exploiting them in order to build a power base and ensure that the foothold you have created for humanity in this distant galaxy does not expire with your generation.

Pragmatically, you would have little choice. If you tried to keep to yourself, eventually other civilizations would learn about your fledgling colony and attempt to take its technology and resources. With such a small population base, you would not be able to compete on that level for a very long time. They can't destroy your ship, but if you have a colony then you will have a point of vulnerability which will give them opportunities against you.

I'd hide the ISD in somesplace no one could find it, then sell off the technologies bit-by-bit, get filthy rich, then retire to some tropical paradise. Even if they couldn't build their own hyperdrives and whatnot because the technology gap is too big, I'm sure some TIE fighters could be sold for a descent bit, as could AT-ATs. The only problem would be getting Tibanna gas for the weapons; maybe you could make some more money selling the Tibanna gas from the ISDs weapons to people when they run out.

First find a safe place out of reach of the local civilisations.

Set up an industrial infrastructure.

Conduct small raids on colonies and ships to get a better picture of your potential enemies abilities.

Search for humans or cloning-tech. Once you found one of those or both get yourself a lot of females/new population-members to increase your manpower-base.

Destroy ships, space-ports and space-stations of everybody, if necessary bomb them back into the stone-ages. While they recover, you should have enough time to build up your empire and take them over at a later point of time.

Does a typical Star Destroyer have the ability to refine hypermatter, or to establish a hypermatter refinery before its own fuel runs out? I'd assume that with tens of thousands of crew members, the know-how is in there at least. If not, we've only got about five years of normal use before we've got an invincible space station.

Wrong, since without fuel we have no energy for shields or turbolasers.

However, the fuel should last a lot longer, since the ISD is free of its other duties (hunting pirates and rebels, patrol space ...) and there would be no need for shields or weapons at full power when facing the local civilisations.

Starting to kill everyone just for the hell of it would be a bad idea.
First I'd want to know more about the galaxy I'm in. What factions are there. Who are the major players. If there are currently wars going on... whatever. Then pick your allies carefully. See it a bit like the Spanisch conquistadores in South America

Everyone wants to be your friend with a ship like that.

That is one of the biggest reasons I started this. I wanted to see if anyone here could actually answere that.

As for as what to do, The Hyperdrive is still the best asset. You can set up on a planet 10's of thousands of years beyond the reach of the local civilizations ((I should have mentioned thier max speed is less then 20xFTL)) I actually think beocming a 'Mafiouso' would be smart.. have people pay you NOT to nuke their world.
