Absorb/Dissipate Energy
I was just wondering about the extent of the power mentioned in the title. We saw Vader use it to absorb and deflect blaster bolts in ESB, as well as Yoda using it to absorb and reflect Force lightning in AOTC. The EU, IIRC, shows a wide variety of uses ranging from radiation shelding to preventing sunburns.
Anyway, here's my question: Can a sufficiently powerful Jedi absorb the kinetic energy from a bullet?

Better yet, if you don't have to worry about anybody behind you catching a bullet, is using TK to deflect it early - rather than trying to stop - the bullet.Kazuaki Shimazaki wrote:Wouldn't that be better done using telekinesis to stop the bullet in mid-air?

I'd have to agree with you, it would be much better to use the force to deflect the bullet, then to try and stop it.Lord of the Farce wrote: Better yet, if you don't have to worry about anybody behind you catching a bullet, is using TK to deflect it early - rather than trying to stop - the bullet.

CW also has Obi-Wan deflecting Droideka fire with his hand. Crazy.

um... Really? Dang, I thought the animated show as actually, you know, going to be somewhat realistic...Vympel wrote:CW also has Obi-Wan deflecting Droideka fire with his hand. Crazy.

Obi Wan had improved a lot since TPM. Remember, he is a council member now.

I just don't buy it, personally. Just like Mace Windu doing all that crazy shit in Chapter 12 & 13 (IIRC)- my opinion of the CW cartoons is that they're good fun and the story is accurate, but they way its shown? No way.

No worse than Padawan Anakin's free fall onto Zam's speeder really. Or Luke's "assembling Vader's castle from wreckage" feat from the Black Fleet Crisis. Or thousands of Jedi leveling temples resistant to SW turbolaser fireVympel wrote:I just don't buy it, personally. To be fair, the second is just an expansion of alchemy, whose true origins began with Obi-Wan making himself disappear in ANH.Connor MacLeod wrote:No worse than Padawan Anakin's free fall onto Zam's speeder really. Its more than just "alchemy" - reassembling Vader's coruscant castle required an immense expenditure of telekinesis as part of the assembly process, which is what makes it comparably absurd.Kazuaki Shimazaki wrote:To be fair, the second is just an expansion of alchemy, whose true origins began with Obi-Wan making himself disappear in ANH.

Not after the stories about them ripping the Cores outta suns and causing supernova. Converting an entire body mass with 100% efficiency in an instant to neutrinos / Force Energy can't have been easy either.Connor MacLeod wrote:Its more than just "alchemy" - reassembling Vader's coruscant castle required an immense expenditure of telekinesis as part of the assembly process, which is what makes it comparably absurd.Kazuaki Shimazaki wrote:To be fair, the second is just an expansion of alchemy, whose true origins began with Obi-Wan making himself disappear in ANH.

Devices were needed to accomplish that (Naga Sadow had the "ripping stellar cores" trick accomplished by some sort of magic sith crystal device inside his won ship.. same way Aleema did it in the Sith War comics.) Akin to the Massassi temples in prinicple presumably.Kazuaki Shimazaki wrote:Not after the stories about them ripping the Cores outta suns and causing supernova. Luke, by contrast, didn't have those neat amplifiers when he resurrected Vader's fortress.

I dimly recall things like that, but Vader's castle also does not equal a sun.Connor MacLeod wrote:Devices were needed to accomplish that (Naga Sadow had the "ripping stellar cores" trick accomplished by some sort of magic sith crystal device inside his won ship.. same way Aleema did it in the Sith War comics.) What the fuck does that have to do with my original point? I never said they were comparable, did I? On the other hand, you were the one brought up the "ripping solar cores out of stars", so are YOU saying that they are comparable?Kazuaki Shimazaki wrote:

I did not even bother mentioning that BECAUSE it was an example of a device-assisted incident (much as Dorsk-81's tossing of Star Destroyers out-system was assisted by the presence of the Massassi temples.)
By contrast, Luke's telekinetic feats against Vader's castle (on Coruscant) were completely unaided.

I'm curious about how if you can bring yourself to believe (or at least not bitch) that a silly crystal or even "Meditation Sphere" like I heard somewhere could amplify raw Force draw enough so that it can rip a core out of a Sun, why are you particularly against unaided Force induction (from the son of the Chosen, no less) being able to accomplish a feat that's smaller by many orders of magnitude?

1) Vympel obviously thinks that Clone Wars is too Jedi-wank.
2) Connor points out that Jedi-wanking is nothing new and lists examples.
3) I point out that there are cases where there is even more Jedi-wanking, yet he doesn't seem to mind those.
4) Connor tries to explain it away by mentioning the Sith machinery.
5) I'm wondering why if he can accept uberwank with machinery, why can't he accept ordinary wank without machinery.
Does that help?
Yup. I mean, there comes a time when "where the fuck was this when [insert event x"] is a valid question- it's a bullshit question when it comes to most things, but the feats of Mace Windu, Yoda, and even Obi-Wan are so out of tune with what we see in the films that I just have to shake my head. I mean, it's not like anything had changed in between AotC and CW to somehow increase their abilities immensely. If CW Ch 12 & 13 are to be believed, Mace Windu could've taken out the droids in the arena by himself with a wave of his hand. It's obviously not meant to be taken as absolute direct observation.1) Vympel obviously thinks that Clone Wars is too Jedi-wank.

Qui Gon never pulled a stunt like the one mentioned about Obi Wan deflecting Droideka fire with his hand. They stood on the Trade Federation battleship, only two droidekas and Qui Gon never even attempted such a feat.NecronLord wrote:Obi Wan had improved a lot since TPM. Same in the arena, we did not see a single instance of a Jedi deflecting any kind of blaster fire let alone droideka rapid fire bursts and there were a buttload of masters in that arena including Jedi #2 Mace WIndu and he didn't even try that little stunt. The master killed by Jango could have used that little stunt to save his life. I find it hard to believe that Obi Wan is that much more powerful than some of his fellow masters - especially those who have bene masters far longer than he was.
And The Mace on Dantooine bit where he's disassembling droids by the hundreds with a wave of his hand - that would have been real nice to use at the arena but I guess Mace must have been holding back then right?
