Neon Genesis Evangelion
I recently watched all 26 episodes, plus The End of Evangelion. I have two reactions.
1) Wow.
It's a very nice anime, both visually and mentally. The characters were sympathetic and very three dimensional.
2) Huh?
The plot is damn confusing. As near as I can tell, the creators decided that they would allow the audience to make their own decision as to what the series meant and how the whole thing ended.

I haven't watched all of it, but I've been getting the feeling that it may have done really well as a novel. Maybe.

You're gonna need to watch it two or three times before you can even begin to understand it. I have watched the series and the movie thrice and I still don't quite have it figured out.

He DID. Read the post.Spanky The Dolphin wrote:Watch The End of Evangelion for the real ending.
The plot isn't confusing overall, as for meaning, anyone who looks for meaning in a work of art should be shot.
There's only one question that really needs resolving: What are all the possible outcomes for third impact? The series is extremely vauge on this point, but of course the point isn't how it was supposed to happen, but that it did happen, so I guess this is a minor complaint.
data_link has resigned from the board after proving himself to be a relentless strawman-using asshole in this thread and being too much of a pussy to deal with the inevitable flames. Buh-bye.

There are only two outcomes for Third Impact.
1. TV. Third Impact succeeds, with Shinji falling for the lie, and everyone becomes one single being.
2. EoE. Third Impact fails, with Shinji not falling for the lie, and humanity remains separate.

According to the information I've read (and believe me, episodes 25-26 made me surf for info), the creators of the show say that the last two episodes and EoE are concurrent and are not exclusive.Spanky The Dolphin wrote:There are only two outcomes for Third Impact.

1) An Angel unites with Adam. That particular Angel achieves
Instrumentality with Adam, eradicating all other angels and the human
race in the process.
2) Lillith (humans) unites with Adam. Human instrumentality is achieved.
3) Lillith (humans) unites with Adam. Human instrumentality is started,
but is stopped by Shinji Ikari. This is the outcome that ultimately
occured.
I may be wrong about this.

He's not bisexual. He's heterosexual. Disturbingly so, in fact.Pablo Sanchez wrote:On a wholly different subject:
What do you people think about Shinji being an apparent bisexual? It's not often that you see a male character with that sexuality in such a popular and big-name anime.

1) He is obviously physically attracted to women. He masturbates to Asuka's catatonic form, after all.Spanky The Dolphin wrote:Shinji isn't bisexual.
Kaoru is just the only person in his life to tell him he loves him.
2) He gives the standard anime love/crush reaction, the blush, when Kaoru speaks to him or touches him.

Because he was surprised when Kaoru first touched him. He didn't know what to do.Pablo Sanchez wrote:1) He is obviously physically attracted to women. He masturbates to Asuka's catatonic form, after all.Spanky The Dolphin wrote:Shinji isn't bisexual.

It just doesn't appear that Shinji had any intentions of having a sexual relationship with Kaoru.

I don't think I'll be involved in this thread much, since I don't like to deal with the idiocy of some Eva fans, and because I might get too worked up into it.

The point is that Kaoru is still the first and pretty only person in Shinji's entire life that has said "I love you" to him. That's all it is.
