Aluminum Fires and Hookah
My room-mate and I are in the hobby of smoking this spiffy little hookah we purchased. We buy flavored shisha from a local hookah bar, and will often end a night of drinking with a relaxing round of flavored tobacco. I know it's not terribly healthy, but that's OK by me.
Recently, my room-mate bought some aluminum foil to use instead of a grate for the hookah. I'm a little leery. I've heard about how aluminum warships burned at the Falkland Islands, and I'm wondering if smoking through the aluminum will give my pretty pink lungs a coating of burned aluminum smoke.
Is this at all true? Should I be worrying that the little coal is hot enough to give me a strong pull of metallic smoke mixed with the tobacco?
If so, would tin foil be OK?

I think his point is that with the cyanide, polonium and all the other shit the 'bacco will be giving off...you really dont have much to worry about with the aluminium...Thirdfain wrote:Holy shit, smoking is bad for you? Oh, this is in SLAM because I figured information about the flammable properties of aluminum went under Science...

Well, at any rate, Keevan is right. I do not think that the aluminum fumes or even smoke from melting aluminum would even be in such concentration or gross amount to do much damage. hell, I wrap my corn in aluminum and throw it on the grill with the flames roaring, and I'm just fine and dandy, spank you very much. I'd wager you inhale more aluminum trash from busted catalytic onverters sitting in traffic, though I could not be asked to quantify that claim. Bottom line is: I wouldn't worry about it.

Hardly. I have a hookah (Nargila, technically), and I've never, ever had problems with the aluminum burning. It's actually a great way of keeping the ash directly off of the tobacco, and it's fun to poke holes in it at the beginning.Thirdfain wrote:My room-mate and I are in the hobby of smoking this spiffy little hookah we purchased. I've seen hookahs smoked using aluminum foil, and it melted ever so slightly in some places, melted as in all the little crinkles and creases got smoothed over a bit. It does have a low burning point, but it's still well over a thousand degrees Fahrenheit. You aren't going to get your hookah that hot.

Like Sea Skimmer said, nothing in a hookah will get hot enough to ignite aluminum. I've made pipes out of aluminum foil for smoking....other stuff....and I had the flame in direct contact with the metal and it didn't even change color.

Red you're a dirty person. Why don't you go turn yourself in right now. You're probably thinking about raping a good white lady right now, in fact.
