It could be a prologue or flashback.

Excuse me while I change my pants.

And I see Mal is in top form.

That's my thought, seeing as how it goes from blue to gray-green and then ships leave it that look suspiciously like "an old Trans-U".

Yeah, but the whole line about earth being used up makes me think it is just uninhabitable now.

Might be neat to see it isn't any good for decent folk, but acts as home for reevers just fine.

That's an interesting thought. We don't know where the 'edge of space' is in the Firefly-verse, and it may well be that Earth has been left so far behind that it has become a Reaver haven.

God damn that looks good. Although the movie looks very River-centric. I was hoping for some insight into Book's past.

If it is dealing with River's past, it is dealing with the dark corners of the Alliance government. We know the good shepard has juice with them so all sorts of things might come out or be revealed during the course of the movie.

Of course, Whedon does needs to leave plot threads for the next two movies.

Yet another shining example of Joss Whedon's contempt for clichés, and part of what makes Firefly so great.

Somehow, I don't think that guy died there. He seemed a main character.

I dunno about the rock music, but it seemed like they toned down the Westerny aspects, either for the movie or just for the trailer.

Looks. Damn. Cool.

It looks good. I am definitely looking forward to it. I hope it's good enough for sequels.

Well, I always suspected that there was a connection between their mysterious pasts.

While its an odd design, as the only major Alliance ship we ever got to see, I missed the cruiser in the trailer.

the only possible complaint I have is that it looks like they added sound effects to the space shots, which was not on the TV show and one of it's many unique and very liked qualities. other than that it looks great and I eagerly await it.

The sound effects were very reminiscent of BSG's though, they have a bit of a vaguer, filtered sound like they are comming through the hull rather than there is suddenly sound in space.

Is it just me, or did they make an oversight when going on about the TV series, by not actually mentioning what the TV series' title is?

And yeah, I do know that this is obviously the Firefly movie. I just think it's odd that they didn't say it was.

They can't say "Firefly" in there because Fox is a bunch of douchebags. In other news, I have secured a ticket for the roseville screening, so I'll be here next Friday answering all your questions. :P

Awesome. I will be there. That kicks major ass.

(My theory on Book)
Book is a representative from another faction, either within the gov't or a anti-gov't group, that is spying on River. Whether it is to protect her, evaluate her, or potentially kill her I can't place yet. He's biding his time and waiting to make a move.
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."

In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!

Didn't he get on board of Serenity before the Tam Bros showed up?

the same time, in the Firefly pilot (IIRC) book, Simon Tam and bounty hunter (or a Alliance cop) become passengers of the Serenity (River is in some kind Stasis pod that part of Simon belongings).
