It reflects poorly on the deeply religious when their psychological makeup is incompatible with the idea of relgion being incorrect, but an atheist isn't PSYCHOLOGICALLY incompatible with any given religion being correct.
For example, if an atheist died and was confronted with some mythological figure, they would doubtless say, 'Wow. You're totally Hades. I wonder if this is what a flashback feels like?'. On the other hand, a deeply religious person in inseparable from their beliefs, and is incapable of living in a non-religious worldview. They'll never have to confront oblivion, obviously, but try and point out that their crazy retirement plan (1) tithe 2)... 3) afterlife) and it takes away all their security.
Religious people NEED religion: atheists don't need anything.

Unfortunately, the existance of *anything* your imagination invents has yet to be proven or disproven - but I wouldn't recommend holding your breath waiting for the evidence to materialize.Braedley wrote:The exisitance of an afterlife, or the lack thereof, is yet to be proven or disproven.
At that, your first signs of suspicion should be the fact that you 'know' about something that, by definition, no physical science or methodologies can discern exist; so if we can never detect it, how could you be aware of its existance in the first place?
Note: I'm semi-retired from the board, so if you need something, please be patient.

The existence of the Force is yet to be proven or disproven. The existence of Wile E Coyote is yet to be proven or disproven. The existence of the intangible dragon in Carl Sagan's garage is yet to be proven or disproven. There is a thing called logic which allows us to make conclusions based on evidence, and the only logical conclusion is that there is no such thing.Braedley wrote:The exisitance of an afterlife, or the lack thereof, is yet to be proven or disproven.

"Do they really say one year? Because according to scripture, Noah's flood only lasted a little over one month, after which God magically took away the water. "
Should we assume that some people have complained that the canyon took about a month, and that the school is wrong in the suggestion of it taking an entire year? That would have to be one of the most irrational conversations of all-time! I can't imagine the debate between someone claiming the canyon took a month and someone saying it took a year....
I was hoping to find a link showing the actual stuff handed out, but no luck. It would really be stunning to see the stuff with my own eyes!
