Yay, system requirements!
Minimum system:
- 1 GHz Intel Pentium III or AMD Athlon processor
- 256 MB RAM
- 8x DVD-ROM drive
- 3.6 GB free HD space
- 64 MB DirectX 9 compatible graphics card (GeForce 3 or better)
- DirectX 9 compatible stereo sound device
- Keyboard & mouse
Recommended system:
- Intel Pentium 4 or AMD Athlon XP processor (or better)
- 384 MB RAM (or more)
- 16x DVD-ROM drive
- 4.7 GB free HD space
- 128 MB DirectX 9 compatible graphics card (GeForce 4 or better)
- DirectX 9 compatible Surround sound device
- Gamepad with analog sticks (USB or Gameport)
- Keyboard & mouse
Courtesy of GTAinside.com. Also, it has been confirmed by them that the multiplayer from the PS2 version will not be in the PC version, as DirectX won't allow for two keyboards and mice to be mappable individually. Why they don't just implement netcode and remove the splitscreen, or hell, even just make one player use the keyboard and mouse and the other a gamepad is beyond me. Also, courtesy of GTAGaming.com, here are some nice new screenshots:

Believe me, it is much more than VC was. Plus, I just noticed another graphical improvement over the PS2 version, other than the ones already known (more detailed models, high-res textures, a greater draw distance, real-time reflection mapping, etc.). See the ground underneath CJ's motorcycle in gs6.jpg? Real-time shadows, baby.

Nah, I meant the specs. A twinge more RAM, and a 128MB GF4 rather than a 64MB GF3 as recommended.Executor32 wrote:Believe me, it is much more than VC was. HL2 comes on CDs, unless you get the Collector's Edition. FarCry comes on CDs, unless you order the DVD version from their website.Admiral Valdemar wrote:A lot of games are only on DVD now. HL2, FarCry and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory are just off the top of my head. It's simply too expensive to produce so many CDs in bigger boxes, much like when you'd get games on the Amiga with a dozen floppies or so.
It might not be that way in Europe, but that's how it is in the United States. And as we all know, that's what really matters.

I just read an article on GTA:SA and found out something very cool. They basicaly built the game for the PC (all textures and model quality was made for PC specs higher then the PS2). The game was then "dumbed down" so that the PS2 wouldn't have a heart attack trying to play the game. With the PC version they bring back all the good stuff, rework the control system (that always starts console built) and interface, and we have PC goodness.

I would assume the former. If it's the latter, they better damn well be adding MP in a patch. I'll fire off an email about it, I probably won't get a response, though.DPDarkPrimus wrote:So, they're eliminating the co-op objectives, then? Or will I just never be able to get 100%?

While I have the Collector's Edition of HL2, the normal version is also on DVD in the UK. Same with FarCry.DPDarkPrimus wrote:

And Yurp is the bigger and more kingly market, damn Colonial.
They seem to do that with cross-platform stuff now. The many versions of games like the new Splinter Cell have varying graphics, though the PC has the best capability in the end. While RE4 will be on PS2 soon, the original GC version still has the full graphic potential. But even if this wasn't so, I prefer the controls of a mouse and keyboard for a game like GTA anyway.Alyeska wrote:I just read an article on GTA:SA and found out something very cool. Americans are the most vocal of fans- if they aren't happy, then nobody should be happy.
We're not happy about your PC games coming in DVD cases, either.

Anyone who doesn't have at least a DVD-ROM drive by now is a cheap bastard. You can get generic ones for around $20-$30 US.

DVD cases are far better than the huge (and wasteful) cardboard boxes of the past. Unless the game has a huge manual, which only ever occurs with sims to be honest, it's a no brainer that the companies switched to the DVD cases. You'd have cause for alarm if the cases were like those super thin ones all the time and manuals were purely online things which is bloody infuriating.DPDarkPrimus wrote:Americans are the most vocal of fans- if they aren't happy, then nobody should be happy.

But it's still weird that USA doesn't get the games on DVD... I wonder what's the difference in market between the USA and Europe (for that aspect)?
The only one that I can remember now which didn't came as a DVD was The Sims 2, though it's supposedly available (somewhere) in the DVD edition...

They should have games on DVD. I know here in Canada there are quite a few games that are on both CD and DVDs. In fact there are a few that are strictly DVD only like Colin McCrae Rally 2005.Dead_Ghost wrote:But it's still weird that USA doesn't get the games on DVD... "bbut I don't want to watch movies on my computer"
It pisses me off that I get games that come in paper sleeves and have the fucking CD key stickered to one of the sleeves. Its so bloody easy to loose that.

Which annoyed me greatly, since she makes that thing vanish so often that I never get to play it and couldn't burn my own copy to use when she's out carting that thing Godknowswhere.
EDIT: At least it used to, until I actually played it and decided I wasn't a big fan of it.

DirectX does allow for multipule mice & keyboards to be handled individually. However, it does not allow the automagical System Keyboard and System Mouse to be mapped to individual devices.Executor32 wrote:as DirectX won't allow for two keyboards and mice to be mappable individually. DirectInput is one of the most insanely flexible input APIs in existance.
Not to sure why you would want support for multipule keyboards at once(you could need to use usb keyboards for this!) but hey it is there.

On the topic of the pics, "new02.jpg" looks really cool. Is this just something they did, or indicitive of a new starting costume for CJ (which looks more like what he was wearing in The Introduction DVD anyway)?
