Most annoying is Yoshimo in Baldur's Gate II. Didn't see it coming and was really gutted because he is so cool.
I also second that

+ finding out that Sarevok was your brother was pretty cool also

Ah, but the character reveal is also a little bit hilarious. Inside those bulky armor, K'Tang is nothing more than an eeny-weeny weakling creature!

wautd wrote:- Admiral Zaarin turning out to be a traitor (TIE fighter)
Somehow I wasn't surprised. Dunno', I never like Zaarin after all. Probably the surprise factor is because it was revealed right after the "vs Harkov" campaign (IIRC it was turned out in a mission when we're still busy eliminating the rest of Harkov's forces). Two traitors in a row. That's something we don't see everyday.

If Thrawn turns out to be a traitor... now THAT's really surprising. :)

One of the nicer ones, though not the best by any strech was Deacon Stone in Ground Control, the first movie of him praying to the sun...

Barney's reveal in Half Life:2

You get picked out of the line of other people. You walk past another room where some poor bastard is getting interrogated. The guard motions you into the room and the chair is old, beaten and covered in what looks like blood. The guard turns off the camera's ....

Lan Di near the end of Shenmue 2. You fight like 300 men thinking your going to free the old guy, then you end up challenging the MASSIVE Indian mob boss person lol. But right before you start out of nowhere a helocopter comes up and on a rope bridge hanging on is Lan Di which watches you during the fight. (He killed your father and youve been trying to get him the whole frikken series)

Can't think of many characters, but here's what I came up with:

Skies of Arcadia: Galcian in the Coliseum and the train.

FreeSpace 2: The Sixth Wonder and the arrival of the Sathanas. Both amazing levels.
According to wikipedia, "the Mohorovičić discontinuity is the boundary between the Earth's crust and the mantle."
According to Starbound, it's a problem solvable with enough combat drugs to turn you into the Incredible Hulk.

C.A.T.S. ;)
どうして?お前が夜に自身お触れるから。
Long ago in a distant land, I, Aku, the shape-shifting Master of Darkness, unleashed an unspeakable evil,
but a foolish samurai warrior wielding a magic sword stepped forth to oppose me. Before the final blow
was struck, I tore open a portal in time and flung him into the future, where my evil is law! Now, the fool
seeks to return to the past, and undo the future that is Aku...

Well, I still have trauma of just flying around then getting smacked by a beam, I'll pass on the Sathanas, but i'll nominate the first time you see the Lucifer in-game.

Hell yeah, love that scene! :D
That is one of my favs, though BGII still had a couple which caught me completely unprepared for: Bhodi as Irenicus' sister, and the past (dramatic) romance between Irenicus and Ellesime... I still remember how I said "wtf??" when I found out that the two had been an item in the past... Though my reaction to when I found out that Bhodi was his sister was the opposite as I got midly amused :) and satisfied

I second the vote for SHODAN in System Shock 2. That was unbelievably awesome. Working for SHODAN is fun.

I have to side with the Sathanas, because I never saw it actually appear.

You see, the sucker came out right behind me. There's nothing like minding your own business, and all of a sudden four cannons come in from your periphrial vision.

Can I suggest replaying that, with the SCP? :P Watch those beams FLEX and light up your ships.

Crap. I should I have realized there would be spoilers here. :)

And yes, replay FS2 a thousand times with SCP. The Derelict add-on, especially benefits from SCP - the dead Lucy looks intimitating in dark lighting.

As well as prepare yourself for Blackwater Ops. Also of note: Inferno! Both more than worthwhile, methinks.

I could never get the SCP working on my copy of FS2. Maybe I'll install it on this PC and try it out. =/

Oh.... shiiiiiit.
Actually, for a flight sim, that game had a lot of 'oh shit' moments.

Oh, also from Skies of Arcadia: Drachma. If you take reveal loosely, when you find out why he's obsessed with Rhaknam and also the scene with the feathers.

One of my favorites, albeit a bit obscure, was the revelation of just who the Cybrid was in Tribes: Vengance. Along with 'AAAH! A CYBRID' in the first place, if you've played the previous games in the universe.
