The Christ as Dead Guy

Post by Pablo Sanchez »

This is just one of the things I'm curious about regarding a lot of the Christian sects, be they Catholic, Protestant, or evangelical. Why do we hear so little about what Jesus has to say? In Catholic School we devoted God knows how many hours to his birth, death, and resurrection, but I don't think we really talked much at all about the Beatitudes or the Sermon on the Mount. We certainly didn't do much discussion of his yen for hanging out with prostitutes, lepers, and tax collectors. And virtually all the real meat of the religion, the rules and dogma, come from Paul's letters (Paul, who never even met Jesus but is still accounted an Apostle for some reason)

Why do most Christian sects today present Jesus as either a babe in the manger or a corpse on the cross?

Probably because 'Let he who is without sin cast the first stone' cuts back on the flaming tirades against the Evil. Seriously, Jesus' message doesn't have enough hatred to enflame people and scare people into obeying, so I think it's a case of practicality in the eyes of those in charge.
