I'm just waiting on I.M.P.S. Evidently, it started out as the sequel to Troops and has just been growing since. :D

Watching Broken Allegiance now. Erm... I'm pretty sure they could have done better for the Executor model, but whatever.
It's Rogue, not Rouge!

Yeah, some of the effects in BA were 'meh,' but dramatically I think it's the best SW fanfilm to date.

Watching Revelations now, very nicely done. It stars Linda Fiorentino (of "Dogma" fame) and Anna Nicole Smith as her nemesis, the Emperor's Hand.

Small budget, but you can tell the amount of time & money that went into it vs. most fan projects!

 The lead actress does look a bit like Linda, you're right. I couldn't place why she looked familiar when I watched it, but that's who she resembles alright.

Though I have to disagree on the ANS comparison.

The Emperor's Hand chick has a gigantic chin.

CGI was easily the best I've ever seen in a fanfilm, but acting and story sucked donkey balls. With these production values, I would've rather seen a short film set in an original universe. Pretending that this is supposed to be "real Star Wars" didn't work for me.

Another problem with fanfilms is that they take themselves too seriously.

Interesting since the Star Wars films themselves aren't always deadpan faces and serious moments.

What was that one that broke out into a Mentos commercial halfway through? I can't remember the title, but that wasn't anywhere near serious (well the first half was dead serious, heh, so more the shock!). Troops is itself a parody and full of humor (albeit dark). PA Wars? Star Dudes? C'mon, there's always exceptions...

I was kinda disappointed about that one. For the first half, I was thinking "Wow. A non-comedy fanfilm that doesn't suck. Could this finally be the one that breaks the rule?" Then, Mentos.

I just watched Broken Alliances and Fanboys. Fanboys was humorus but not very interesting. I liked BA more but they could have done a better job with the imps costumes. Still cannot get revelations to work.

Btw I see all this HAB stuff in people sigs but I have no idea of what HAB is, could someone explain?

The Heavy Armour Brigade. It's a subform (you've got to apply and meet certain criteria to access it) to SDNet in which they talk about blowing shit up real good. And other things along those lines.

Anyone remember Duality? I thought that was a good Fanfilm, not great but fun to watch. Good CGI, decent acting and Great Dualing. LEGACY OF THE JEDI was also pretty good.

It was a well-executed lightsaber battle. It wasn't a film in the slightest. ;) Duality kind of irritates me, to be honest. Mainly because people put it on the shelf as an example of great filmmaking, when it's really just an example of great fighting/effects, not filmmaking.

In other words, it's an effects demo.

No, that's not the problem. It's an effects demo that's widely considered to be a fanfilm. That's what bothers me. If everyone recognized it as an effects demo, no problem.

Yeah, someone recommended it to me earlier today, I watched it, and I was thinking "This is supposed to be one of the greatest fanfilms ever made? It doesn't even have a plot!"

The graphics were pretty cool. But, no offense intended as I know these films are made off of the goodwill of fans, but there should be a weight limitation for certain roles..

True! I should've made myself more clear, sorry.

With fan film parodies, it doesn't matter that much if acting or CGI don't reach professional level. They can afford to suck more, provided that the humour aspect is in good hands. Sometimes, low production values may even enhance it. It's harder to make a good serious fan film than a parody.

Troops is itself a parody and full of humor (albeit dark). PA Wars? Star Dudes? C'mon, there's always exceptions...
All these are great. :)

But how many good serious fan films can you think of?

I remember there was this fanfilm, very well done, excellent effects... and then it turned out to be a Mountain Dew commercial. That was pretty hilarious...

Warning: The QuickTime file at Mirror 1 has an error at 11:27. It made QuickTime freeze and lagged the computer for about ten minutes before I could make it close. Use one of the other mirrors for QuickTime.
