I'll still keep XP for at least a good deal of time. No reasons for me to switch over.

I'll wait for the first service pack to be released for it before switching over.

Not quite, you can apparently use threading to synchronize some sort of 64-bit backend with a 32-bit GUI frontend.
The problem is it requires to rewrite your application into a client-server arrangement since the 64bit process & 32bit process need to use IPC to communicate. Thats a rather large change from how say photoshop works.

It would be considerably easier just to have the entire thing as 64bit. I would be very suprised if we see any major apps for the Mac to use the 64bit ackend & a 32bit frontend in a large GUI app.

I need shiny things, so I'll likely switch. If it doesn't work out I can always go back.

I might upgrade when its actually worth my while. Until then, I'm sticking to XP Pro.

I'll stick with Win2k until I can no longer get security fixes for it. After that, I'll wipe my Windows partition and make my computer Linux-only.

You don't have to buy any new hardware to switch to Linux.

And Macs suck. So there. 8)

let's face it, if you use a computer for writting, or video then the mac is the choice. All the basic writers, teachers, etc use macs.)

you really want something scary.

George Lucas and ILM use MACS for ALL their CGI work

I seriously doubt that. There may be aspects of the production flow that use Macs but all of it? I'd be amazed, frankly.

I wouldn't have a use for Longhorn anyway.

I still use a already over three years old PC(900Mhz). I'm out of the game market for already some years and all I do with it is writing, creating pictures and playing older games or on emulator (I still use win98).
I'm one of these guys who is the "lost group" for M$, because I'm no longer in the upgrade thing. (And I also couldn't afford it)

I could see them using Shake on OS X for composition purposes and maybe to use the usual Adobe tools but that's about it. Their 3D work is probably done on the usual x86 workstations and rendered on the usual x86 renderfarm.
