I have a few concerns, though. The planet looks kind of barren on the surface. How would the ecosystem support all of those giant creatures? And did they have any eyes? I didn't notice.

Looks like fun, but my guess is, much like Dragons, it will be better fit in the Fiction half of the website. Interesting fiction. Fiction with more attention to science than most. But still blatant fiction.

One of the most feared predators on Darwin IV, skewers count among their prey all large land animals, except the massive groveback. Their formidable hunting array includes wings spanning 50 feet and equipped with four methane-powered "jet" pods that can generate speeds up to 200 mph. A skewer uses its speed to drive the long hollow lance protruding from its head deep into its victims. Prey are then carried aloft and sucked dry. Methane jet pods? Is that really possible? And how can it carry large land animals while still flying? Man, this is already starting to look bad.

Is that Sea Strider really relying on surface tension alone? I mean, I know that's not water, but are there really any materials with the surface tension to hold something as big as a fucking sky scraper?

If I remember correctly, Mercury can support a human on top of it. I think.

It does sound pretty incredible. Do they give a figure for the surface gravity of that hypothetical planet?

Mercury does have a solid surface, as does Venus. Neither of these is particularly hospitable though, particularly the latter.
