Souned on PC went out

I can't get sound anymore. I checked the speakers- I hooked up a spare set to see if it was them. It wasn't- still no sound. I checked Sounds to see if the volume was down- it wasn't anybody have any suggestions?

if it's onboard sound, check the motherboard manufacturer's homepage. if you're using a separate soundcard, check your card manufacturer's homepage.

My problem is that my computer was built by someone four years ago. I can't check the motherboard or card manufacturer, as far as I know, unless I take it apart.

no problem. and i'm not aware of any other way to check the brand manufacturer without taking off the case, though that shouldn't be too problematic.

You could go to the device manager, and see there what soundcard it says is installed on your system.

It's in the control panel, in "system".

If you're lucky, you might be able to see if there's any driver problems from there, but at the very least it'll tell us what sound card you're using.
