Dooku, The Nicest Sith?

Post by Crossroads Inc. »

Seriously, did he ever actually do anything Evil? I mean, REALLY Evil? Did he ever give the trademarked Evil laugh of doom? A speech of haltered or malevolence? How is he even a Sith? We’re supposed to believe that he was Palpatines apprentice? What about Maul? The rule of two? Sure, he does a lot of plotting and scheming in the movies, but he seems so nice? Where’s the Darkness? The foreboding? That evil Aura Sith give off?

Well...he used to be a Jedi...maybe he really thinks he's doing good or some shit.

Either way i'm prety sure he stood by a watched a couple metric assloads of people die at the hands of his cronies and did jack to even TRY and stop it so i wouldnt say 'nice'.

Anyway...he looks like someone's grandpa of course you think he's nice.

he did try to kill Obi-Wan and Anakin and Yoda in ATOC. He has undoubtedly killed many people we have not seen. He is just the most diplomatic of all the Sith we have seen, but it is all for misdirection and subterfuge.

Umm ... as far as the Sith are concerned, Jedi are mortal enemies. It makes sense to want to kill them. I don't think Obi-Wan and Anakin were plotting anything nice for Dooku either. If you damn anyone that kills enemies, Luke Skywalker would take the cake. His first mission killed at least one million people, by the greatly watered down numbers published by the NR (density analysis suggests orders of magnitudes more people).

He did do a lot of deception of his own underlings. See how in Dark Rendezvous, he tricks some planetary governors under him to keep fighting and wait for help he never intends to send (to be fair, that's directed by his Master).

No, he left the Order because he believed that the Jedi were weak, one reason for continuing to serve an increasingly corrupt Republic.

Christopher Lee has class. Class, is not exactly the same as 'nice'. He comes across as nice because he keeps his hands clean; he lets the underlings, who he makes abundantly obvious are just that, do the dirty work. He believes sincerely in what he does, and is honest about it. He doesn't need gestures of power to express his strength, like Vader; he allows his reputation to do that for him.
It's a strange world. Let's keep it that way.

I will grant you that except for one thing... What reputation? did people ever speak of him in hushed tones? did they scury out of the way when he walked by? Did they cringe in fear at his very presance?

Dooku obviously was probably a good man before being a Sith. Concerned by the corrupotion in the senate - a concern transferred to Qui Gon and to a lesser extent Obi Wan (who expressed a general distrust of politicians) and Mace and the others are adamantly opposed to the notion that Dooku could be a bad guy "Dooku is a political idealist not a murderer. It's just not in his character." And a great teacher - he schooled Qui Gon perhaos one of the more balanced Jedi Masters we've seen.

Besides my daughter thought he was someone's grandpa and was not happy when he turned out to be a bad guy. His masquerade fooled the Jedi Masters and my 7 yo daughter. The bastard.

Ah, yes, but that very fear is what detracts from Vader. He's got presence because people are scared out of their very skins thinking about him; Dooku, on the other hand, doesn't need that. He is a man of mystery, but looking at him, you definitely get the feeling that crossing him would be a Big Mistake.

Basically? Vader's built up his street cred, so to speak; Dooku already has it. He's not one to bluntly demonstrate his power, like Vader; he prefers to convince other people to do the dirty work (as in using Sifo-Dyas to order the clones), therefore keeping his hands clean, therefore looking 'nice' to us. Vader goes in there, get his gloves bloody; while in one sense it's impressive, in another, it lowers him. Dooku remains above that. And that is why he has class.
It's a strange world. Let's keep it that way.

The Sith aren't evil... they're just misunderstood. The entire war could have been prevented with a nice big cuddly group hug. Too bad the Jedi are cold, unemotional bastards.

Dooku's got class; there's no denying that.

But the thing I've always disliked about Dooku and wish that GL had gone into was his turn to the Dark Side. I feel that the good (and this is in jest, mind you) Count should have appeared on the council in TPM, that he was in Qui-Gon's corner during his attempts to get the Council to listen about Anakin, and that we should have seen his break with the Order after the Funeral, blaming them for the entir debacle.

It would have given more meaning to the tragic aspect of his character, that, like Anakin, he set out on his goals with good intentions, but instead went down the road to hell. It's thus been left to the EU (most notably Dark Rendevous) to make this clearer and I'm very afraid that ROTS won't delve into this for however long Dooku appears.

I am not damning Dooku for his mere killing, but things such as he was going to kill a wounded and defenseless opponent(Obi-Wan) in cold blood. True Obi-Wan did chase after him, but it was nothing like Luke killing the DeathStar to protect the Rebellion.
I was just pointing out that Dooku had indeed hurt people and tried to kill some others, which the OP said had not happened.

Personally I think Dooku is just a political idealist and he's trying to use the Sith for his own ends just like Sidious is trying to use him. He has the Dark Side with him now, but he still clings to a whole lot of Jedi ideals. His accounting to Obi-Wan of events was accurate, except that he omitted to mention his own relationship with Sidious, which was actually not very helpful to Sidious as it made the Jedi observe the Senate very closely, which suggests to me that his offer to Obi-Wan of "together we can destroy the Sith!" was genuine.
So yes, I think he is the nicest of the Sith; he actually retains his genuine good intentions and not just hunger for power like Sidious and Vader do.

Why? Give Obi-Wan half a chance and he would also have sliced Dooku in half. If he lets him go, do you really think Obi-Wan won't come after him?

You might notice that even while Obi-Wan was crawling on the floor, he was still trying to give Anakin an extra lightsaber. Surrendered he has not.

It is not a Light Side action (for Light Side action, see NJO stupidity), but I'm not condemning him for it.

I focused more on the evil part. He's probably evil, but this ain't it.

The RotS novelization acccount of his recent history and intentions is quite extensive- needless to say his political ideals stink to high heaven- he's a snob, an out and out racist and a fascist. He didn't really understand the Sith- he planned to turn the Jedi Order into the Sith Army. Sidious of course would have none of that, and was playing him from the start- Dooku, for all his class, was a mere tool. Anakin was always the objective.

But then, seeing it is his own post, he can change the size himself anyway. Is there another mod that can do it for him?

Did it state why?
Devolution is quite as natural as evolution, and may be just as pleasing, or even a good deal more pleasing, to God. If the average man is made in God's image, then a man such as Beethoven or Aristotle is plainly superior to God, and so God may be jealous of him, and eager to see his superiority perish with his bodily frame.

Done.

Personally, what's particularly telling and extremely frustrating in Dark Rendevous is that Dooku was, oh, about this close *holds up fingers a millimeter apart* from turning back to the Jedi, when Anakin and Obi-Wan, convinced that Yoda is unable to handle Dooku, burst in, and convince Dooku that he's been betrayed. Good going wonder-kid. :(
