CELEB SCREAM: Angry Crowd for 'Monster-in-Law'
When pulling up to the Los Angeles premiere of 'Monster-in-Law,' the first thing to meet the eyes was not the usual glitz and glamour of the red carpet, but instead a street full of angry protestors. Who was under attack now? Were the Vietnam Vets still coming after star Jane Fonda, tobacco juice and all, for actively opposing the Vietnam War? No. This time it was the fur-loving Jennifer Lopez, who can't seem to shake off the PETA protestors. The group has been after the singer/actress since she introduced fur in her latest clothing line, Sweetface. The upset animal activists relentlessly shouted 'J. No' into their megaphones as she and husband Marc Anthony posed for pictures. When asked by numerous reporters what she thought of the demonstrations, Lopez simply replied, 'I don't.'
The atmosphere inside was much friendlier as Lopez joined Fonda and their co-stars Adam Scott, Elaine Stritch, and comedian Wanda Sykes, who can take full credit for the funnier moments in the movie. The hunky Michael Vartan was M.I.A. Helping to celebrate the release were celebrity guests Alyssa Milano, Stockard Channing, Marg Helgenberger, Randy Quaid, Constance Marie, and 'Queer Eye's' Carson Kressley and Jai Rodriguez.
Following the movie, guests headed across the street to the Hammer Museum where protestors were anxiously waiting. The group attempted to give out what they called 'free J. Lo' CDs, which were actually "behind-the-scenes" DVDs showing images of Lopez in fur interspersed with undercover footage of animals being skinned alive. Helgenberger, with her whole family in tow, was one of the many celebrities who walked on as the protestors continued to shout graphic details of animal slayings into their megaphones.
Clearly many of the guests were unfazed by the chants as they partied the rest of the night away, feasting on chicken, beef Wellington, salmon, grilled vegetables and wedding cake. Lopez made a quick appearance before getting the heck out of Dodge.

I have actually developed a wee bit of respect for J. Lo.
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."
In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!
If all you want to do is have some harmless, mindless fun, go H3RE INST3ADZ0RZ!!
Grrr! Fight my Brute, you pansy!

PETA can fucking blow me. I wish some of the guests would have been eating that food in front of the protestors making yummy sounds and rubbing their bellies.

Oh, I'd do it, too. But this is Hollywood, remember? Outright mocking such blatant insane far-leftism is bad for one's career over there.Stravo wrote:PETA can fucking blow me. Every once in a while, I dream a little dream that someone like Mike Tyson, Sean Penn or Jesse Ventura will change careers, and start a chain of combination leather gallery and steak house, and that PETA would get wind of it and decide to 'do something about it'.
Note: I'm semi-retired from the board, so if you need something, please be patient.

Yeah, but you know the PETA self-righteous brigade won't stop there if J. Lo or others like her renounce all fur. They'll just shift fire and go after the Beef Wellington, and that cannot be had.Wicked Pilot wrote:I hate to be in agreement with PETA, but killing an animal simply for it's fur is something we can do without.

I have no problem with it as long as the animal is raised humanely, killed humanely, and isn't an endangered species ....Wicked Pilot wrote:I hate to be in agreement with PETA, but killing an animal simply for it's fur is something we can do without.

Maybe lamb instead of beef, some of those look good, and it would be cheaper then half a cow.

I also gain a little respect for J. Lo, considering how that article portrays her as just completely dismissing PETA. Doesn't beat Ted Nugent, though.

I don't have a problem with it; out of curiosity, why do you think its wrong?Wicked Pilot wrote:I hate to be in agreement with PETA, but killing an animal simply for it's fur is something we can do without.
Devolution is quite as natural as evolution, and may be just as pleasing, or even a good deal more pleasing, to God. If the average man is made in God's image, then a man such as Beethoven or Aristotle is plainly superior to God, and so God may be jealous of him, and eager to see his superiority perish with his bodily frame.

Anyone interested in setting up an all meat restaurant? We can decorate it with hunting trophies... Have Ted Nugent perform at the grand opening. Then heat huge beef ribs dripping with meat and use them to taunt the protesters.

It just strikes me as a waste of life. I don't really support banning fur, and the more humanely it's done the less of object. And I think fur coats look kinda stupid. I'll take my leather jacket anyday.BlkbrryTheGreat wrote:I don't have a problem with it; out of curiosity, why do you think its wrong?

Really? How do you define humanely? When did this grand revolution in animal welfare amongst large-scale meat producers take place? If factory farms are so harmless, then why do organic farms get away with charging so much more for humanely raised meat?Darth_Zod wrote: the vast majority of produce animals -are- raised humanely. the tapes the peta use showing horror stories of animals being abused are typically in the rare minority. but they try and pass it off as though it's how the majority of farms handle their animals.
