Done.
Personally, what's particularly telling and extremely frustrating in Dark Rendevous is that Dooku was, oh, about this close *holds up fingers a millimeter apart* from turning back to the Jedi, when Anakin and Obi-Wan, convinced that Yoda is unable to handle Dooku, burst in, and convince Dooku that he's been betrayed. Good going wonder-kid.
Ahhhh, re-read the story. Palpatine personally convinced Mace to send Obi-Wan and Anakin to Vjun ... he still had a little need for Dooku and wouldn't allow him to return to Yoda's bossom, and lets not mention the fact that he could expose Palpatine/Sidious.

Little is told of his past, barring that he was indeed geninue in his reasons for eating the Jedi Order.
EDIT: I'm leaving that typo in. It amuses me. It was supposed to be 'leaving' of course.

Dooku was responsible for setting Jango Fett on the hottness that is Padame. Killing a hottie to make your political backers happy is usually considered evil.

Agreed. I consider it a romanticization to say that Dooku is 'nice'. He acts with the 'acceptable' manner for one of 'his station'.
He's basically an aristocrat and behave's with the civility that he has learned a 'gentleman' uses. This in no way makes him 'nice' nor any where near a good guy.
He wants an Empire of Man, and holds very racitst ideals. He sing's sweet platatudes to your face as he instructs his minions to kill you. He speaks very poetically as he holds contempt for you.
He's an asshole.

I always thought Dooku was in a Grey Area. I assumed that he was a more edgy Qui Gon. They both saw Problems in both the Republic and the Jedi Order. I just think that Dooku took a more drastic and possibly clever way to stop the corruption. He headed straight for it and forged an "Alliance" with the Sith Lord. For all we know he was going to bring down Palpatine and truly save the Galaxy.
I think EU should focus more on Dooku.

That may have been how Sidious lured him in, but by AotC's, Dooku was an evil bastard with an annoying 'gentleman's' facade.

I meant that both were playing each other, it just that Palpatine got his way. Dooku as I see it probably had his own agenda and used Sidious to execute it and then betray him in the end. His plan just failed.

ROTS spoilers; Well, in true Sith fashion, in ROTS, Dooku is plotting against Sidious to a certain amount. It's plausable that Dooku rationalizes to himself that if he can destroy Sidious and become the Sith Lord, he wouldn't have 'fallen' but Dooku does have racist, Imperial dreams of his own, aside from Sidious, and towards the end wanted to bring Obi in for his own 'apprentice' possbilly jealous of Sidious's obesssion with Skywalker. But he is very much his masters apprentence in ROTS, following his master's lead and all. In the novel he makes a few interesting thoughts about what he thinks is his and his masters plan. As a side note, it only takes Vader a short time before he starts thinking of knocking off Sidious and becomeing Sith Lord himself. Seems a true Sith theme is wanting to be powerful enough to kill your master.

I see. I stiil think Dooku should have some more attention in EU

Indeed, hence why I said that he wasn't 'nice'; instead, he has 'class', which can be a very different thing.

Agreed, well put.
Yeah he's also stood by and let Greveous and Sideous kill...what, billions? Trillions? And then he acts shocked just shocked when Obi-Wan tells him he's fighting for teh bad guys.

Like killing Obi Wan for one. Palpatine couldn't have done it himself because then there'd be no way Anakin would have joined him, and I doubt there'd have been anyone else around strong enough to take out Obi Wan while Anakin was there backing him up, Ventress got her ass handed to her when it was just Anakin and Obi had already taken care of one Sith in the form of Maul. Ok, Dooku doesn't actually kill Obi Wan, but that crash against the wall could just have easily been his skull.

When I first saw Dooku, he struck me as just some random guy who was a pretty bad manipulator. The kind of guy that Sidius would use for ammunition. He did strike me as someone who was being used, and didn't really seek out killing things. After all, he did leave Obi-wan and Anakin be before Yoda showed up.
Still, in front of the stadium during the execution, I expected him to scream out "To WAAAAAAAR!" towards the droids and Genosians. Didn't you all expect that?
