Currently I'm getting pissed off by Master Hand / Crazy Hand, Event 50 in Super Smash Brothers Melee. I hate bosses that are friken HUGE and give characters, esp slower ones, almost nowhere to go.

I believe the most annoying boss EVER was the Third Level Boss from Battle Toads and Double Dragon, for the Super Nintendo. The stupid guy was impossible to kill if you didn't know his weakness, since he would shoot you if you were far away, and wack you into oblivion with his ENORMOUS gun, if you were close. Even once you found his weakness(aka, ducking and shooting from a distance) it still took like 5-10 minutes of just SHOOTING to kill him.

Bosses that just sit there and take ridiculous punishment are the height of stupid. Nemesis in FFX is the height of this.

You think he's bad, try Penance.

Has about 12 times the HP of Nemesis and can kill you by looking at you funny. Combined with FFX's stupid progression system, that makes levelling up to the point you can even survive the first ten seconds take weeks, and it's just an exercise in pointlessness.

There is a boss in Hostile Waters. Yes, a boss in a real-time strategy game.

Life is not sweet.

You want to talk RTS bosses, try Archimonde, from Warcraft 3?

...you know you're fucked when the /last level/ of an RTS is a 'survive for X minutes' board.

I'd have to say Cyber Akuma from the Marvel vs. Street Fighter series was one of the most insane bosses ever. He regenerated his life at a godly speed, his attacks and combos devestating, and his super attacks nearly killed you if you didn't block it. Even on easy, he was still hard. He anticipates your every attack, blocks like crazy, and then counter attacks with a combo followed by a special attack. And if you do beat him, you have to do it again, for a best of 2 out of 3. Of the dozens of trials (if not hundreds) of attempts to beat him, I've only ever seen 6 or so wins.

More precisely, he took one point of damage from any attack. So unless you were a supacheater, yes. Not only was he invincible, but he teleported free bases into place, complete, high-level bases, in about a minute, each time he took one of your allied bases.

For annoyance, I'll take Galcian from Skies of Arcadia.

Terminal is a cool move, but it sort of gets dull after the n'th time. Galcian go up, Galcian go down. Galcian go up, Galcian go down. Galcian get hit in back by Moon. Galcian go up...

According to Starbound, it's a problem solvable with enough combat drugs to turn you into the Incredible Hulk.

Very few of you obviously remember back in the old days when the main condition of an Nintendo side-scrolling fighting game was that you should under no circumstances include more than three continue points regardless of how hard the game was. At that point, ANY boss was annoying, because they were the only places in most games where you were basically guaranteed to lose several lives.

In fact, I recall that in the early video game universe, no henchman or creature, however large or ugly, could pose a threat to you; they were mere flies to your greatness. No, there were only two things we feared in games like Castlevania or Bionic Commando: The Boss With Only One Small Weak Spot and the Instant Death Pit Of You Better Jump At Just The Right Moment.
Note: I'm semi-retired from the board, so if you need something, please be patient.

The whole level in Hostile Waters is you piloting a hovercraft with a pointless cloak and a machine gun against a 5 armed alien/robot hybrid thingy with shields and regenerating health and an attack that is damn near impossible to predict and not get hit by.

Of course, in true arcade boss fashion, as he gets weaker he starts shooting multiple fireballs at you instead of just 2.
