Jedi Master Sifo-Dyas

Post by Vympel »

It has recently come to my attention that the EU has come up with a Sifo-Dyas story about why he ordered the Clones. Let me relate why this pisses me off-

IMO, it's blindingly obvious that Sifo-Dyas was killed by the Sith, and the gullible Kamino....ians, when confronted with Count Dooku claiming to be Sifo-Dyas, simply believed that Dooku was Sifo-Dyas. I mean come ON- how obvious is it? Jango Fett flat out, truthfully states that he was hired by "a man called Tyranus". It must've been at the same time, since Sifo-Dyas was killed 10 years ago, and the first Clonetrooper batch was created at the same time.

I literally do not understand how someone could miss something like that. The moment it was stated in the film, bam! I understood what had happened.

Anyway, can someone relate it to me?

Oh no! They didn't, did they?

That's just fucking stupid.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

from what I understood syfo dyas hired the kaminoians to make the clone army and Dooku killed SD and sent Jango to be the template.

I liked the thought that Dooku used dark side powers to make the kaminoans think he was Sifo.

Lama su: " hey you're not Sifo dyas!!"
Dooku waves hand, lighting jumps between his fingers. "I am Sifo dyas." the lighting jumps out and hits all the Kaminoans.
Kaminoans: "master is Sifo-dyas, gollum, gollum"

If you're referring to James Luceno's "Labyrinth of Evil", Luceno got the backstory directly from George Lucas:

EDIT: Changed the link as they've moved.

Right with you Vympel - I was watching AotC a week ago for just the 3rd time, and it was pretty damn obvious what was going on. In fact, I had to explain it to my friend who was watching it with me.

Woo hoo! First use of the 'quick reply' button, and thus don't care if I'm repeating others;

Sifo-Dyas existed. He forsaw the need for an Army of the Republic (possibly saw the Sith plans). Palps got wind of it. Had Dooku kill him. Changed his plans to incorperate the Clone Army accordingly. End of Story.

So does Sif-Dyas's order of 10 million clones correlate at all to his order of 10 million parachutes, 10 million units of buttless flak-armor and 2 million copies of "It's Raining Men (Halleluyah)"?

Sifo Dyas foresaw the need for an army ordered it and told no one before he died? UGH.

He did tell some one (what your posted jogged my memory) IIRC, his trusted friend. Master Dooku.

Yes, I mentioned that above and posted a link to an interview with James Luceno where he stated that.

LoE spoilers Sifo-Dias was persuded by Dooku to order the army (as they shared views in effectiveness of the senate), of course Sifo-Dias did tell this anybody but Dooku who then killed Sifo-Dias to conseal the thruth and to convince Sidious he was worthy of the title of the Dark Lord of the Sith.

Ah, my mistake. Thanks

Here's the text in question from said interview (emphasis mine):
The Unnoficial Clone Wars Site: Was George Lucas involved at any stage of Labyrinth? Was there anything that you wanted to include but was shot down?

James Luceno
: George was involved to the extent that he provided answers to the many questions I had about Master Sifo-Dyas, General Grievous, Dooku’s allegiance to Sidious, the Prophecy of the Chosen One, the Battle of Coruscant, and more. The Sifo-Dyas background came straight from Lucas, as did Sidious’s words to Dooku before the duel aboard Grievous’s starship. I had already been asked to create a background for Grievous, but I asked George for his thoughts, and was told to think of Grievous as a joint product of the Banking Clan and the Geonosians. Regarding the Battle of Coruscant, in my early outline I had Palpatine being moved about as President Bush was in Air Force One on Nine-Eleven. George said, however, that I should rework this along the lines of what the Secret Service did with Cheney, which was to get him to a hardened bunker. There were many other instances when I asked for his input, simply because I didn’t want to second guess him, or base my plotpoints solely on my read of The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones. I wish I’d been allowed to do more with Padmé, and to bring Dooku and Anakin within striking range of one another, but to do so would have trampled on lines in the final script. I also had to be very cagey about maintaining the Palpatine/Sidious illusion.

This could be taken to be a sarcastic statement ... :?

Well, if it came from Lucas, fine, but I have serious doubts that was what Lucas was thinking when he did the film. Bah! Bah, I say!

Err, oops, no, not sarcastic. What I was trying to say was that it was obvious to the point where I could explain it thoroughly after only seeing the movie a few times.

I dunno what this other nonsense is... I don't really touch the PT EU.

I'm not talking about LoE (which I haven't read), merely my reaction to Vympel's starting post.
