Hence why Phalanx, an altogether fair and intelligent person who is known for being conservative in his calcs, will stick up for his "comrades", even if it's a losing proposition.

It's actually quite interesting, and I suppose I can respect him for sticking up for his friends, although I think Phalanx should realize why they're being criticized and that they potentially deserve it.

I very rarely agreed with his conclusions, but I always let him have his own opinions and I'd have mine. He didn't call me a traitor and I didn't hassel him about his stance.

Still... it doesn't sit right with me to not stick up for a friend becaues he's done something wrong. When I look at it the other way, I'd like a friend to stick up for me when I screw up.

Well.... he was doing that way before I ever showed up. And like I said, I rarely backed up his arguments. When I first joined up and didn't know much, yeah I looked at his calcs and accepted them. But over time my position has changed a bunch of times.

Oh, I'm not saying that someone shouldn't get other people to back down, eventually. You should just say, "Look, you made a mistake. No big deal." I just don't see the rationale behind putting one's own head on a chopping block, even with no real help of assisting your friend. Look what happened here: you stuck your neck out to protect Adam. You then got a substantial portion of the flames, but you still didn't really protect him. I think it might be more effective to help him bind his wounds afterwards, but to let him take a few hits by himself. It might make him a better debater, in the end.

Pffffft. Nu-uh, I'm just as rabid and stupid as they are. Don't give me your respect, I don't deserve it or want it.

Adam and outofstep may or may not be right on the issues, but quit clowning on them. They're still my fellow Fivers and I gotta back 'em up, even when they mess up, because no one's perfect. If I don't have their back when they make a mistake, how can I expect anyone else to back me up when I make one? At the end of the day, Adam and outofstep could be wrong, and they might not be as smart, but they're decent people who'd probably buy you a beer if you met.
You remember that thread you made about your friend, this is pretty much like it, you're acting like a doormat, stop trying to cover up their misstakes and putting yourself in harms way, this time harm being in the way of a horde of SD'ers out for blood :P

So THATS why you didn't pull shit out of your ass (like outofstep and Adam Warlock do) when we debated about the power of the slicer beam on the Shadow "battlecrab".....

$5 says this really isn't Phalanx.

So do I. The real Phalanx doesn't even post REMOTELY like this.

Are you seriously saying this is someone different than the guy on SB.com? Come to think of it, we never bothered asking him if he was the same guy.

Does the SB.com BLPhalanx also attend University of California in Santa Cruz?

Yes, he goes to that university, I'm quite sure of it.

And I don't see how it's not him. Phalanx is the kind of guy who sticks out for his own, even if he's not obliged to or even in the wrong for doing so. Nothing I have seen here has raised any warning flags about his identity.

I'd hardly call his posts trolling.

He does not deserve to be banned.

An unfortunate side-effect.

And that one post by me should be "caring", not "carrying". *groan*

That's because I wasn't quite myself. Or actually... I was myself, it was just a side of me you haven't seen before. Hell, it was a side of me I hadn't seen before.

Gentlemen, there's an easy way to settle this. Does anyone know the real Phalanx's IP, or where he posts from? I can just compare the two. Let's do this via PM, as it's probably not a good idea to be posting IP addresses to the open forum, but I'll post the results (yea or nay) on this thread.

I am the same guy. I dunno how I'd prove it to you. Actually I do know how. Tell me to say something at SB, and I'll go there and post a new thread with that phrase.

And yes, I attend UCSC. This is my third year, majoring in computer science.

Relax. You're not going to be banned for that. We don't ban members here for single threads, especially since apparently some people know about you from SB.com and respect you. Just try to make sure that this doesn't happen again. Okay?
