Amber

Post by fgalkin »

Could someone explain to me what makes the Amberverse so super? How does their magic work, how strong are they, etc.

Thank you

Have a very nice day.

OK lets see...

http://www.fortunecity.com/tattooine/ha ... /a_pla.htm

Amber is the one true place, home of the pattern. The pattern was created by Dworkin with the aid of the Jewel of Judgment. When it was created, infinite shadows were created as well. Each one just minutely differently to the next. These become more "real" and "solid" the closer they are to Amber and less so the closer they are to the Courts of Chaos.

An person of Amberite blood attuned with the pattern can walk between these shadows at will, and within each one has the power to alter the reality ever so slightly. If they so wish they can destroy entire shadows (read universes) at will, but this will generally have political repercussions.

Amberites are immortal, except to acts of violence. They are amazingly strong, intelligent, most have amazing magical prowess and all are capable of amazing feats of endurance. For example some sword duels have been known to last for days with the pair constantly fighting before someone is defeated.

More as I can be bothered...

They are archetypes. Amberites and the Lords of Chaos are the only beings made of substance, instead of mere shadow. Every shadow dweller, every being in every possible universe, is just a pale reflection of them. Any general and strategist is a Shadow of Benedict.

They can alter the laws of physics and magic with some effort, up to the point of erasing entire universes. They can travel to to everywhere they want and have the resources of infinte universes to back them up. Thugh most technologies and magic only work in specific shadows, the magic of Amberites and objects imbued with their power work in every shadow. With preparation, alterig the laws of a shadow, they can arguably dethrone gods.

The Lords of Chaos can extrude tendrils of force from their bodies and fetch objects and possibly attack people who are not even in thier shadow, change shape at will and summon storms of Chaos that can devour shadows.

I seem to be detecting a slight bias leaning in the direction of your allegiances, my dear scion of Hendrake. ;)

Seriously, there is scant reason for pattern users to be capable of the same feats Merlin has displayed; namely, extending constructs into the shadows. Fiona is reputedly a pattern mage - why not go ask her...?

Cooking will always be a thing of Chaos, Colin. Best to eat them raw. :)

*ahem* Balefire wipes Eleas from the Pattern. Entirely. No ashes. No remnants. Gone. About 15 mins ago.

*ahem* Assuming that Eleas was a 3rd gen Amberite and you just "wiped him off the pattern"... Then the pattern is likely to be very upset with you.

Or you are Oberon. Take your pick.

WHichever makes me win. Strange when fantasy meets sci-fi, ne? I wonder if Robert Jordan got inspiration from here...?

Neither makes you win. In one the pattern will happily erase you from existance and undo every action you ever made. In the other your Oberon. Which means every Amberite and Chaosite is out to make sure that you don't come back. AGAIN.

You're talking about Pattern in an Amber thread. Where the hell does WoT come into it?

Please, mention not his name. To say the name of the Hack of Shadows in conjunction with Zelazny would be an insult beyond any other.

AAAAAAAAAAARGGHH!!! I didn't see this before, but I now realized you really did desecrate the name of Zelazny with the unholy power of Jordan. *shudders*

Btw, one chaos storm summoned in a shadow would destroy that universe. Balefire? Pffft...
