Canada TV Rapped for Saying Gays Gripped by Devil

OTTAWA (Reuters) - A Canadian religious television station was formally reprimanded on Friday for broadcasting a program that claimed homosexuals were possessed by the devil.

The Canadian Broadcast Standards Council said Vision TV had been wrong to show an episode of "Power Today" hosted by U.S. evangelist R.W. Schambach in which he talked about those possessed by demons.

"They don't like me to air this on television. But I don't care what they like! I am not politically correct! God's given me power to cast out devils and if you are a homosexual, I can deliver you! And I can set you free!" Schambach said.
"Homosexuality is not another lifestyle. It's a demon spirit. In the beginning God made Adam and Eve. He didn't make Adam and Steve."

The broadcast council, which set up a panel to investigate a viewer's complaint about the broadcast in February this year, condemned Schambach's "hostile and vitriolic" comments.

"The intolerance and bitterness that drip from his lips are extreme. They constitute abusive and unduly discriminatory comment (and) they have no place on Canadian airwaves," it ruled.

The director of programming at Vision TV defended the program, saying Schambach had not suggested anyone try to harm homosexuals.

Canada has fundies and unfortunately they appear to be rapidly spreading. In fact, in my neighborhood, they are currently building THREE new churches all within about about a 5 minute drive from my house

Seriously, its quite scary.

The only reason I can think of is that there are a some new subdivisions of housing going up near us but damnit THREE churches so close together when there are already plenty in the neighborhood, WTF? Biggest waste of resources my town has ever made IMO.

Over here in Montgomery COunty, MD, we have quite a lot of churches clustered
in a 30 mile radius....the concentrated FUNDIE spirit there would be enough
to explode Wong's head.

A nearby town has around 4 or 5 churches within walking distance of each other, and the town center. It ain't surprising.
