In my lastest post to ASVS-HN, I make reference to an Insider explanation for Kenobi's "failing" lightsaber during his duel with Vader in ANH. This was gathered from second-hand info on websites and newsgroups. I would like to know if I have the correct info/interpretation.
The issue in question is from March 2002 and has the blue babe on the cover.
Also, any related info from other sources would be appreciated.

And it also occurs when the saber is not pointed directly at the camera.
Basically, there are a couple of frames where they forgot(?) to add the effect to Ben's saber. The second-hand info I have indicates that this is somehow caused by the type of crystal the Sith use in their lightsabers and can cause a Jedi's to short out.

When I was little I thought maybe Vader's line "your powers are weak old man" really meant that the lightsabers were generated by the Force, and since his powers were weak, the lightsaber was shorting out due to his lack of "faith" for a moment or something.
I only toyed with the idea, and abandoned it after I'd seen the movie a few times.
