Amber Question
Is it reasonable to assume that all universes mentioned in the entire sphere of literature, mythology and culture exist within shadow in the Amber-verse, but were not mentioned within the novels due to copyright issues?
Eg:
Can we assume that The Wheel of Time "universe", Lord of the Rings etc exists within the "Amber-verse" as shadows, but are not referred to so as not to cause copyright infringements?

In other words, wem is asking if the Amberverse is a literary UNIverse. Thusly, all worlds and such from other literary works (WoT, LotR, SW, ST, EVERYTHING) would be part of the Amberverse, despite whether they were written by other authors.
Personally, I vote Nay, BECAUSE they were written by other authors.

Re: Amber Question
No, because some of them have their own, equally valid, take on the multiversum (IE His Dark Materials and all the stories of Tanelorn).weemadando wrote:Is it reasonable to assume that all universes mentioned in the entire sphere of literature, mythology and culture exist within shadow in the Amber-verse, but were not mentioned within the novels due to copyright issues?

Nearly all fantasy books reside in their own literary Universe; Amber, Conan, LoTR etc. Amber itself is a literary Multiverse - it spans a multitude of dimensions.verilon wrote:In other words, wem is asking if the Amberverse is a literary UNIverse. That is not my arguement.verilon wrote:In other words, wem is asking if the Amberverse is a literary UNIverse. Thusly, all worlds and such from other literary works (WoT, LotR, SW, ST, EVERYTHING) would be part of the Amberverse, despite whether they were written by other authors.

My arguement is that these other literary universes exist somewhere within shadow. Whether or not they are mentioned is irrelevant. The point is that shadow is infinite and it is a quite reasonable assumption that within shadow there are shadows that ARE the WoT and LotR universes. Regardless of authors.
I got the impression that the number of shadows was finite. Otherwise, how would anyone be able to shadow-walk and eventually reach the Courts? If the number of shadows were infinite, you'd never be able to go from one side to the other, as it were.weemadando wrote:That is not my arguement.verilon wrote:In other words, wem is asking if the Amberverse is a literary UNIverse. While shadow walking you don't pass through ALL the shadows. You choose the path that you walk, it can be as short or as long as you like.Eleas wrote:I got the impression that the number of shadows was finite. Of course, you're right, I misremembered.weemadando wrote: While shadow walking you don't pass through ALL the shadows. You choose the path that you walk, it can be as short or as long as you like.

The 'Alice in Wonderland' bar in the Merlin books sets a good precedent in favor.
However, I think it is debatable wether and how Shadow is infinite., but it probably belongs to another thread.
