Well Yippy Skippy! Updates!! Updates!!
I'm sure you already know my preferances FireFox, That said, I'm sure I will be pleased with whatever final version you decide to go with.

Finally found a good 3d viewer to allow me to look at this model. It's based upon the ANH concept art, and I really like the approach to the superstructure. Aside from the engines and wing configuration, I could see this as the Mk. I Flight I (or II, with KDY-style outriggers on the bridge tower). How about it?

I'm assuming your next version will have the more tradtional 'Closed' wing configuration?

Woah. I like.
Any chance you'll be adding some heavy turrets? It doesn't seem to have any distiguishable weaponry, at least anything I recognise.
Edit: Hmm... looking at it again, the open sides and unique tower make it look like the Venator, but in a different way than just a copy...
I'm really liking how this is going.

There will be a few differences, of course. The wings will be closed in at least one variant, and heavy weapons will be obvious on either side of the superstructure (plus medium arms on the spine forward of the superstructure). The superstructure footprint will be enlarged to accomodate a larger reactor, and I'm going to add outrigger "wings" to the bridge module to attach those sensor booms. The engines will also be changed.
I'd say that a Mk. II version of the ship has a superstructure closer to this design, along with the KDY-style tower + forward pod. These would probably appear post-RotS, and the Mk. Is would probably be upgraded to the new tower and some other changes.

Do something about the guns. They need to be able to shoot over the wings, or they need to be placed between them.Firefox wrote:Finally found a good 3d viewer to allow me to look at this model. That said, I've always liked the ANH concept art, and I'd use it whereever possible.

Acurrized?
I'd go Tector. Try to follow any clues you get from that ROTJ flyby.

As much as I like Victories, I'll have to agree to this. I don't think we have got to see a worthy Tector before, and would be nice to see your take on the ship.Illuminatus Primus wrote:Acurrized?

I was planning to close the wings on at least one of the variants. Any version with open wings would have to have weapons placed between.Illuminatus Primus wrote:Do something about the guns. They need to be able to shoot over the wings, or they need to be placed between them.
What's your feeling about enlarging the superstructure's footprint? As it is, it appears to be too small to accomodate a Venator-sized reactor. That said, I've always liked the ANH concept art, and I'd use it whereever possible.
Meanwhile, the Tector would be interesting. I doubt its dorsal surfaces would be too much different from an ISD-II, though I could incorporate the multi-nodular tower into the design (unless the concensus is that the multi-node tower belonged to the communications ship).

I've taken some close-up screenshots of the rendering, and I think I'm going to go from there to building up the model. There will be some proportional changes, but the overall design will remain. I may add one or two QTL batteries to the forward spine, a'la Devastator's similar arrangement.
Meanwhile, I'm leaning more and more towards converting the second kit into an Interdictor. While it's incredibly tempting to turn it into an ISD/Tector, I'd like to save that for a 28" scratch build, which would be to the same scale.

After some recent events, I've decided it's time to get down to business. My other projects (Polar Lights NCC-1701 and 1:300 XB-70) are doing just fine, so I've decided to start cutting plastic for the VicStar. I've applied putty to the two hull halves, under the elevated terraces that surround the superstructure (in some places, I've glued plastic under these terraces to provide extra support).
Hopefully today I'll start cutting the hull to its new angle, and perhaps cut out and install wedges at the stern to change its angles.
In the meantime, this is what the superstructure footprint should look like. The rectangle cluster in the bottom picture represents the docking bay and branching hangars that I'm planning to add (the V-Wing launch bays on either side of the docking bay will be closed). I'm also going to cut out and move the reactor bulb aft about 1/4" (47 feet in scale). The main reactor should be further from the hangar facilities, and more under the superstructure. It'll also be positioned between the main engines.
