Nintendo ON? (Possible Revolution leak)

Post by McNum »

I was browsing GameSpot's forums when this little video popped up. Yes, video.
http://rapidshare.de/files/1741533/Nint ... n.wmv.html
Choose "Free" to download it. You'll have to wait 60 seconds, though.

I'm not sure if it's for real... but the production quality of the video says "official" to me. And it looks like something for E3.

Short version is a brief lookback at all Nintendo's previous consoles, then a switch to the castle of Super Mario 64 and a zoom out until you see a Nintendo logo made of... 512 million castles. Then they show the how the system works. It's a VR visor and the "brain", as they label it, has two sides and looks a little like a toaster. A Play Games and a Make Games side.

Really, really odd... Yet if this is the real deal... I want one! If not then the video itself is worth the download.

I read that article, too. And they do give conflicting information.

But that video is damn good. Like who else then Nintendo has access to the Super Mario 64 Castle? And 512 million of them, to be exact. That has to be hellish to render for any normal person.

The only really odd thing I see in the video is the last clip before it's cut off with Mario. He looks odd.

Everyone with a Mario64 rom and some "specialized" programs.
It is quite well done, but nothing impossible.

I just watched it again. This might not be the Revolution iteslf, because it's represented elsewhere in the video!

At 4:40 we see the Nintendo ON connect with a GameCube and a small flat box with a question mark on. Hmm... Small sleek box... Revolution?

EDIT: Or in a completely different idea. The Revolution System isn't a console at all! The GameCube, the ON and whatever the ? box is are not individually the Revolution System either. Together, on the other hand, they are. The Revolution might be, as Square-Enix also said, a common platform for all these systems to work together.

This will also cover the "Can the Revolution play GameCube games?" question. Yes it can. Because the Cube is part of the Revolution.

Or maybe I'm just rambling, but in any case I'm keeping an eye on whatever Nintendo are up to in E3.

Can anyone give me a mirror, it won't let me download that.

Look what I found on Nintendo.com:
Big things to come in small package

Nintendo, the world leader in video game innovation, stated loud and clear that they are not to be overlooked in the next generation home console race with the revelation of several unique features of the company's next console system, code name Revolution, to key media outlets. According to the early information, Revolution will combine powerful technology and gaming-focused features in Nintendo's smallest home game console yet.

In its final form, Revolution will be about the thickness of three standard DVD cases and only slightly longer. The versatile Revolution will play either horizontally or vertically, allowing the user total flexibility in setting up a gaming session wherever they have a television.

Thanks to Nintendo's hardware development partners IBM and ATI, the small system will be packed with power that will enable it to wow players with its graphics. Nintendo's legions of loyal fans will be happy to learn that Revolution will be backward compatible, playing both Nintendo GameCube 3-inch disks along with its own standard, double-layered DVD disks in the same self-loading media drive.

In the next generation, the addition of the Internet will be important to all consoles and particularly important to Nintendo. Revolution will be wireless Internet ready out of the box.

There's much more to Revolution that will be revealed over the coming months, but the combination of its compact size, wireless Internet, backward compatibility, quick start-up time and quiet, low-power operation add up to the start of a great game system. Get ready for the Nintendo Revolution in 2006!

IGN has it now. They call "fake" on it, but without any sources.

http://media.cube.ign.com/articles/613/ ... ids_1.html

I'll wait for official word from Nintendo before passing judgement on it.

The little Nintendo fan in me roots for "real", though.

Wow. Extremely well done. I'm fairly sure it's fake (especially the look at longneck-Mario at the end. LOL), and the Metroid Prime shots looked like the GC with some glows added to the video to blur it, but that guy should be hired by Nintendo.

I guess it's back to waiting and speculating for E3, then. Ah well...

Oh, Nintendo, take notes. This leak, fake or not, just got spread out to thousands of users in an hour. Think about that...

Actually, that Nintendo article unveils a whole lot. We now have an idea what it looks like. Also, it apparently has a slot loading tray...
self-loading media drive.

And 12 cm disks- is that full size?
Another article...
http://news.punchjump.com/article.php?id=787
Not sure how reliable it is, but:
Nintendo let a few hints drop on their next-generation system, code-named Revolution, on the same night Microsoft debuted the Xbox 360 to viewers worldwide.

The Revolution will reportedly play DVD movies, indicating that Nintendo will make the jump to a standard media format rather than creating a brand new proprietary format for the system. The Nintendo 64 utilized expensive cartridges that ultimately pinned developers with higher costs, and subsequently promoted third-party support for Sony's Playstation. The company again used a proprietary mini DVD format for the GameCube and prevented the system from playing regular sized DVD movies.

The new system will also be a super sleek unit according to Nintendo's vice president for corporate affairs, Perrin Kaplan. The unit will stand as tall as a standard DVD case and is said to be just over an inch thin. The masterful feat in engineering will trump the new Microsoft's Xbox 360, which is about the size of the first generation Playstation 2. The size will also give Nintendo an attractive appeal to sell to consumers, a tactic that rival Sony has used to generate buzz in the PS2 and PSP.

Nintendo has confirmed that the Revolution will include built-in Wi-Fi technology for wireless online play, and will be backwards compatible with the Nintendo GameCube. The company is expected to reveal more details on Revolution at next week's E3 in Los Angeles.

I just took a ruler and a nearby CD and 12cm is indeed full size.
No CDs were harmed in the taking of this measurement.

So the Revolution will have a slot loading drive that can accept both full sized disks and minidisks. Cool.

Aren't slot drives bad? Noone uses them anymore: idiots put a disk in when it's already loaded, hilarity ensues.

And the wireless better be regular wireless with useful services: whats the good of it if all it does is connect consoles?

Every Mac other than the PowerMac uses a slot drive. The only real problem is that most slot drives are only for full size disks; idiot puts mini disk in and the whole drive dies, hilarity ensues. Looks like they're supporting both.

I like slot drives, personally, but you have a point about the idiots there.

Perhaps I misinterpreted? Self loading could mean a tray that pops out when you hit a button? Crap. I hate trays.

I'd say that last one is a mockup designed to fit Nintendo's description. Looks about right.

The logo thing is interesting, MIGHT be a real leak, might just be a simple fake.

Revolution confirmed for 2006; will play DVDs

Nintendo's next-gen console will also be around an inch tall; will support GameCube and DVD discs.
Speaking to GameSpot several weeks ago about the imminent launch of the Xbox 360, Robbie Bach, Microsoft's chief Xbox officer and senior vice president, weighed in on the next-console race. He said he largely saw the next several years as a two-party conflict between Microsoft and Sony.

"Nintendo is good and cute...and there's nothing wrong with that," he said. "They'll be a competitor, but in a different category almost. I don't think they have the same ambition that either Sony or Microsoft does in the more mainstream interactive entertainment space."

Bach's words were presumably based on Nintendo's long-standing policy that game consoles should be for games, period. This philosophy was at the core of the company's current-generation console, the GameCube, which uses a proprietary three-inch disc format, versus the DVDs used by the PlayStation 2 and the current and next-gen Xboxes.

However, it appears that will soon change. In a statement on its official Web site, the company "stated loud and clear that [it is] not to be overlooked in the next-generation home console race." Nintendo announced that its new console, code-named the "Revolution," will play DVDs and be backward compatible. "Nintendo's legions of loyal fans will be happy to learn that Revolution will be backward compatible, playing both Nintendo GameCube three-inch discs, along with its own standard, double-layered DVD discs in the same self-loading media drive," said the company.

Speaking of DVDs, Nintendo also mentioned that the Revolution "will be about the thickness of three standard DVD cases and only slightly longer." This would make it the Japanese game giant's smallest console to date, as well as making it barely larger than Sony's new slimline PS2, which is about two times as thick and about an inch-and-a-half longer than a DVD case. Like the PS2 and the Xbox 360, the new Revolution will be able to lie on its side or stand on one end for horizontal or vertical display.

Unfortunately, Nintendo's statement, which appeared strategically timed to deflate some of the hype surrounding the Xbox 360's unveiling, had few other specific details. It reconfirmed details revealed in Nintendo president Satoru Iwata's 2005 Game Developers Conference keynote address. Namely, it reconfirmed that the Revolution will be "wireless Internet ready out of the box" and will be powered by an IBM CPU and an ATI GPU.

That said, the statement concluded with a tantalizing tease for Nintendo fans. "There's much more to Revolution that will be revealed over the coming months," it read, "but the combination of its compact size, wireless Internet, backward compatibility, quick start-up time, and quiet, low-power operation add up to the start of a great game system."

Nintendo also confirmed what has been long suspected...that the Revolution won't arrive until next year. The last line of the statement read, "Get ready for the Nintendo Revolution in 2006!"

^ Nice find :D

So this guy has been posting on a site called http://onlynintendorevolution.blogspot.com/http://onlynintendorevolution.blogspot.com/. He calls himself Osoko Tanaka but I think that name's total bull. This guy says some really interesting stuff. I am about 90% convinced (due to the IGN endorsements and his humorously intentional butchered use of the english language) that this is somebody's way of talking and hyping up the big N. Also, he makes a good point...Retro has updated their site. Even though it's just one sentence of text, it's the most they've updated for a while.

The excitement builds...If half of what this blogger says is true, Nintendo will not only own E3, but it will own the xbox360 next gen.

Do you remember when I talked about Retro Studios?
Unlike all people who only want to think I'm liying. I'm gonna give you one reason to see that my words aren't false.

Do you remember when I talked about Retro Studios?

See the next URL ---> http://www.retrostudios.com
So You'll see that Retro Studios has said the next thing a few minutes ago "We are now working hard on a NEW project that will be announced soon" (games)

So I'm gonna say again two words: Hallo Killer (Not, it won't be Metroid Prime 3)

I've seen 10 seconds of this new game and the only word that I can describe it is: AWESOME!

See you before Nintendo's conference. I'll announce a great news...

P.D: Revolutionary System

Revolution Logo and controller pad
Do you really think Revolution won't be on this E3?

You wrong...

So now, I'm gonna talk about "Revolution logo" to show you how it can be.
But don't be sure it will be the final design. It's just a logo...when Nintendo thought call to the system..."Revolution"...

http://gamesblog.it/uploads/nintendorev ... alogo2.jpg

It is one of the two designs that Nintendo has on his offices.

And now, I'm gonna tell you guy how can be the pad:

http://www.blogadictos.com/upload/revo28vf.jpg

Yes, it is one of the x (x = I don't remember how many) prototipes which Nintendo has designed with...K...I (I can't tell you the full name)

I'm sure that Nintendo won't change too much the final design. I couldn't see the final design of the controller, but I remembered a memorable quote from Nintendo... "It's revolutionary, it can be with our concept(...)"

Yeah, Revolution is VERY VERY VERY sleek... to have an internal (and great) thing...

Guys, Nintendo have Revolution on the 100% to can show it on this E3. Don't be worried about if Nintendo will show Revolution. I promise you that Nintendo has pride, and it doesn't leave that Sony or Microsoft win this E3... Revolution will eclipse this E3

I don't want to talk about design of Revolution because... It will be a great surprise for all you

P.D: We will see the new age of a new second partie... (Who has said... Halo Killer?)

See you before Nintendo's conference.

more about Revolution
Welcome back.

Despite my english (I'm from Japan), I wanna continue talking about Revolution but, in this case, about Retro and Revolution and about graphics.

I've seen the best game that you'd never seen. 10 seconds, 10 seconds of a game which can change the world of video games. I'm not talking about "video fake" of Nintendo On, I'm talking about another thing, THE game.
This game has taken its toll on me.

"video fake" of Nintendo On is, obviously, a fake, a great fake. Let me tell you Revolution is still more impressive than it.

I don't know if this game will be on the E3. Nintendo have not answered to my question(...)

But I can tell you guys that it could change video games's concept. A great step.

Revolution's graphics are unbelievable better than Xbox 360. Time is an important factor.

So, I'm gonna talk about "Broadway"

well, we guess that we know Revolution will have 4 cores, 2,5Ghz each one.
It is FALSE

I can't talk about the CPU. But I'm sure, after to see it, that it'll be too potential.
Bill gates, don't laugh about Revolution. You're doomed.

Sorry, I couldn't have access for GPU information. I promise you I wish to have information about GPU.

See you later before E3...

P.D: IGN ,when will you show your information? uh, Matt

So...Do you want to know what is Revolution?
So...Do you want to know what is Revolution? it sounds cool, doesn't it?
Let me tell you guy that I prefer to call it "RS". Yeah, cuz it'll be the beginning of a new age where you'll can do anything in... Any moment? Don't u believe in me?

I have so many data about RS and there is a great site web which also knows about it: IGN
get away from me if you think I'm lying to you. get out. if it isn't the case...continue reading...

Yeah, let me show you how much it knows:

If you're surffering on the internet with "Mozilla Firefox", you should do the next thing, uh:

-Write on Mozilla "ps3.ign.com". You'll chek out it exists.
-Write on Mozilla "xbox360.ign.com". You'll check out it exists.
-Write on Mozilla "nr.ign.com". You'll find out one thing...IT DOESN'T EXIST!
But... Please, try to write the next url: rs.ign.com ---> The page is loading...IS LOADING...Hype? No, at all. It isn't hype.
Matt knows too many things(...) and I also know too many things...

Do you remember Aries?
Is a great user who have too many information about RS but...Not all information
all you need to know about RS is that it'll be a revolutionary system. Why?

Read the next things:

Nintendo, will hit all rivals with its upcoming revolutionary system because..."rs can read DVD's and HD-DVD's"
HD-DVDs is a technology which can arrives until 45GB...Zelda's next game will use almost this capacity(...)
Do you remember the pic about "HD-DVD RS"? it can be true? let me tell you that the pic is true!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v606/ ... isc4ia.jpg

So...Would you like to know what is the revolution?

Imagine that you can be in a room chat with all people who you know...imagine that you are plaging online...in real time...in aRPG...called...Z...a Imagine that you can choose and you've the chance to create a world...to choose a world...WHERE YOU'LL be inside...

see you later guys...I'll be right back...

Hmm... Fool me once... and all that. Still this new blogger seems to know something. The IGN thing was a good pointer, although not conclusive, but he did call the Retro studios update a few days in advance.

I wonder... could he be from Retro?

Or a completely off the wall idea. Matt from IGN sure has seemed like he REALLY had something he wanted to say, but couldn't. However an anonymous post to a random blog... Could it be? This guy does seem to have a little IGN insider iformation, and by that I don't mean the subscription service.
