Miscellaneous cap ship stuff
A couple random thoughts floating around my mind lately:
-Aside from the missing reactor bulb and docking bays, could there be any real differences that distinguish the Tector class from the ISD? Changes in superstructure? Armament?
-The Immobiliser-418 has a very scrawny profile for its mission, it seems. Where's the reactor space to provide power to those huge projectors? And would there really be enough space for stowing a pair of starfighter squadrons?
I'll add more as I remember them.

Possibly longer. If that's the case it may have a protruding bulb, but we just didn't see it. Presumably, since it is more dedicated as a combatant, it has a different armerment favoring heavier weapons.Firefox wrote:A couple random thoughts floating around my mind lately:

Reactor power density is higher I presume. That's what the passage in LoE implied to me at least.-The Immobiliser-418 has a very scrawny profile for its mission, it seems. Where's the reactor space to provide power to those huge projectors?
Yes.And would there really be enough space for stowing a pair of starfighter squadrons?

Judging from this screenshot from the very end of that scene, it looks roughly like an ISD, only without the docking bays and reactor. The stern should terminate a little below the FoV if this is based on an ISD. The hull may have been extended further aft, as you suggested. (Aside: both the major and minor brim notches are visible.)Ender wrote:Possibly longer. If that's the case it may have a protruding bulb, but we just didn't see it. Is there a passage you can quote? I don't have a copy of LoE, unfortunately.Reactor power density is higher I presume. That's what the passage in LoE implied to me at least.

Is there a passage you can quote? I don't have a copy of LoE, unfortunately.[/quote]It's something about how enough tractor beams could prevent escape to hyperspace, but there aren't ships big enough, but there will be to prevent the next war. We know it's a small ship, but its reactor has to be more powerful then other similar ships, so presumably it has a higher power densityFirefox wrote:Reactor power density is higher I presume. 1. 2 Starfighter squadrons.
given those fighters are the size of a WW2 Spitfire and don't need a runway for take-off and landing qiven the size of SW starships that question is quite simply moot.
2. reactor power
Since we don't to my knowledge know the energy requirements of gravity well projectors how do you know the ship can't satisfy them?
If we DO know the requirements I'll happily stand corrected but would humbly ask for some quotes.

I'm sure if it's accurate but I've specs were second pair of those sphares are reactors(as in power generation)
I may be an idiot, but I'm a tolerated idiot

I'd say the fact that the Dominator class lacks that qualifier serves more as a tidbit that quantifies the power the vindicator class star frigate reactor can produce. I'd forgotten that, thanks!Quadlok wrote:The fact that Interdictor cruisers must power their projectors for a minute or more before they can be switched on suggests that they may be underpowered, but thats hardly conclusive evidence.
Imperator = ~ 2.5*10^25
Vindicator = ~ 4.2*10^23
Or about 2x as powerful as most other star frigates of that time, meshing nicely with the LoE statement.

Hmm. Shouldn't larger ships have the power necessary to overcome the pull of the Interdictor? Presumably this is why Thrawn used a whole flotilla of interdictors to trap the Republic fleet.Ender wrote:It's something about how enough tractor beams could prevent escape to hyperspace, but there aren't ships big enough, but there will be to prevent the next war. Re: Miscellaneous cap ship stuff
From what I can gather, the interdiction effect has less to do with power than with the idiosyncracies of hyperdrives. They simply will not engage in a large gravity field and will shut down immediately if they find themselves in one, unless you do a whole lot of modification.Illuminatus Primus wrote:Hmm. The reason for the large number of Interdictors at Bilbringi was likely due to the anti-capship weakness of Interdictor Cruisers. You need a lot of them to insure that the net will stay up when the things start being blown up by NR cruisers.
