But ot say that religion is in NO way supported by logic and/or reason is stupid, IMO.
How is the acceptance of beliefs which are nondisprovable and for which no evidence exists to prove leave the possibility open for logical support? Religion is antitheitical to logic.
While it goes against logic, it doesn't go against human nature.
Humans strive to understand the unknown. That which science does not or cannot explain, religion does.
Humans aren't completely logical beings, so stop acting all surprised and shocked that people believe in more than what's proven.

Enough with your strawman bullshit, pecker. I said that religion and logic are on opposite sides of the spectrum, which they are. I never mentioned anything about why humans believe in religion. I don't care why. That doesn't change the fact that it's irrational nonsense.

he never said it *wasn't* irrational....just for you to stop acting suprised that people believe in it.
verilon wrote:Okay, but if you look at it, even Christianity *somewhat* follows evolution....and there is logic in there.....just hard to find, and not necessarily the logic of science. I necver said it was scientific.
Science does not use a particular form of logic; logic is independent of science. An argument is either logical or it isn't; it isn't enough for parts of it to be logical.
For example, the argument "A therefore B. B therefore C" is logical if you can show that A really causes B, and B really causes C". But the argument "A therefore B, B therefore C" is not logical if you can only justify one of the two connections. In other parts, partial logic is simply not good enough; a chain is as strong as its weakest link.
And you think I will obey your imperious commands ... why?
You annoy me.
If you don't want to be annoyed, then don't expect silly things, like me sitting there mutely while you tell me that it's "stupid" to think religion is illogical.

What? Where did I say it wasn't irrational? That's EXACTLY what I said. You need to think about what I wrote. I replied to your post, and added a new issue.
I said that while religion is irrational logically, it isn't 'unnatural'.

Funny, I don't ever remember saying, "Oh my God! You're a Satanist! I'm so surprised that you believe that!"
I said it was irrational, and it is. This simple observation doesn't equate to surprise on my part, especially given the fact that I'm a cynic. Very little in the way of stupidity surprises me, these days.

Well, considering that they consider cows to be sacred...
Also, I heard somewhere that some species urine can actually act as a sort of antiseptic or something. But that's just heresay.

A red herring is an attempt to throw attention away from the issue, yes?
I was just bringing up a new issue, not trying to cover up the old one. Sorry if I wasn't clear.

lmao. at least religions are discriminated equally against at this board.
and yes, I know the reply that religions have little base in science, and thus at this board.
I just find the whole thing amusing.

If Religion and Politics were characters on a soap opera, Religion would be the one that goes insane with jealousy over Politics' intimate relationship with Reality, and secretly murder Politics in the night, skin the corpse, and run around its apartment wearing the skin like a cape shouting "My votes now! That is pretty fucked up. Did he try to remove organs from people with his bare hands?
