Now that's just terrible. How can anyone name their children after a character in a movie? (Well, according to my local paper recently, the fastest growing name given to girls here in Sweden is Leia, which naturally is attributed to the fact that many of the original viewers are becoming parents, Leia isn't a Swedish name).

I was joking about naming some poor kid 'Yoda.' That poor little guy. I feel like the worst human ever. My middle name is Luke, and I got enough stick from the guys at school for that alone. Geez.

That doesn't change the fact that my child will be called Kirk. Or Jasmine if its a girl. (As a transformers fan, I thought I could get away with calling her Jazz, and be subtle enough that no potential mother spotted the reference. )

But there's a difference, right? Between calling a child Kirk and calling a child Yoda, or Chewbacca, or Tk-147.

Oh Jesus, give a kid an alpha-numeric sequence for a name and that's just asking for a pounding on the playground.

Its a whole different matter when TK-421 turns up at your house with a bunch of his squad mates, kicks in your door, reclaims his lunch money and then sets fire to your Aunt and Uncle.

Wow...poor kid. I'd hate to have that name, although, my name is bad enough.

I am not really surprised. There are a lot of morons around here that named their children after characters from south-american soap operas.

Maybe that's why so many hardcore sci-fi geeks are virgins: it's a mechanism to prevent kids from getting saddled with names like that.

God, that's awful. At least names like "Leia" and "Luke" are normal names that regular people have. But "Luke Yoda"? Christ.

I was surprised how many girls born in the late 70s/ early 80s (including an ex) were named "Jaclyn" after the brunette from Charlie's Angels. Girls can get away with silly names without getting beat up, unlike boys.
