For bad guys, i put up the Eddorians.

First off, they stood toe to toe with a race that was literally old as time (the Arisians) and they scared the Arisians so bad they went into hiding for eons. They're as advanced as some of the upper-tier races like the Xeelee, traveling to thousands of universes seraching for a place to conquer before finding this one, old as time themselves.

Secondly, the Eddorians are practically indestructible. They're immune to psionic attacks, and have evolved a defense for every possible physical attack, and they are these big ameba (i think that's the word) things that reproduce by cell devision.

Thirdly, i love how they throw cannon fodder out one after the other after the other. They dont give a shit about anyone's life, they barely care about each other, as long as they have conquest. They convinced a whole galaxy to act as proxy soldiers for them and got most of them killed to do it.

If it werent for those kids the Arisians bred the Eddorians would be ruling this puny universe!

Couldn't find an introduction thread so I just thought I'd dive straight in!

The Inhibitors in the Alaister Reynolds books. One of the few races (if you can call them that) who want to wipe out all life in the galaxy for a very good reason.

The Xenomorphs from Alien were pretty cool, even if they lacked depth.

How could I forget the Orions and Twi'leks?

Argh, now it's a three-way tie. Syreen vs Orions vs Twi'leks. :?

Oh well, who cares? They're all great.

Surprised no one has mentioned the Daleks yet. For no matter what the Doctor has done, how many times you wipe them out either though history or a virus, they do equal the timelords and in the end the Doctor has to sacrifice his own race to stop them. 8)

Ur-quan are pretty cool too.

I think that the Gnosis from that game Xenosaga are fairly original.

However, I'm going to have to say the Borg.

The Orks from Warhammer 40K

Their weapons consist of-
Choppa, slugga, shoota, rokkit launcha, burna, and big shootas.
The biggest one is always the "boss."
and their sole motivation in life is that they get to fight the space marines. Quite comical, but quite deadly all the same.

Xenomorphs, you don't need depth or (possibly) sentience to be cool.

In no particular order:

Timelords.

Daleks.

Transformers!!!!!!!!!! In the anime they were industrial robots created by (partly) organic masters. But in the vastly superior comic they were a race of their own, created by the light-god Primus to fight the Chaos-god Unicron. Very nice!

and although not technically a race, the Jedi. It's odd, that despite my love for star trek, not one of the alien races that I consider memorable are from the Trekverse.
...and knowing is half the battle

The Goa'uld.

Come on, you have to admit the glowing eyes, dual-tone voice, and super strength is pretty cool!

That and you will actually have an explanation for that voice in your head.

"Kneel before your GOD, slave!"
"Welcome to my world, BITCH!"

Silly Christian, your god is false. I killed that particular System Lord 3 months ago.

Bah, the Invid ran for their inferior insectile lives from the Masters. They were vermin that should have been extinguished from the Universe.

As for bad guys, I kinda liked the Neo-Zeon forces under Char Aznable in Char's Counterattack.

Alot of races from Starflight.

The Ancients-An Ancient race which you eventually discover is the fuel you are burning in your starship.
The Uhlek-The Hive mind race, which just kills you
The Gaztroids (sp)- The Squid race which is on a holy crusade to clense the galaxy of air breathers.
