Xbox 360 to play nice with PSP,Ipod

Post by Ace Pace »

RUMOR #3: You will be able to hook up your Sony PSP to the Xbox 360--as well as your iPod.

Source: That mecca for the nuts-and-bolts-conscious gamer, Tom's Hardware Guide.

The official story: "That's interesting."--Microsoft spokesperson.

What we heard: One of the features of the 360 that Microsoft has been touting is how it is a "Digital Entertainment" hub with USB 2.0 connectivity with devices like MP3 players and digital cameras. And since a memory Stick-equipped PSP shows up as a hard drive, couldn't it also be connected to an Xbox 360? Apparently so. When demonstrating the Xbox 360 to Tom's Hardware Guide, Jeff Henshaw, the Executive Producer of Digital Entertainment for the Xbox, openly said it would work with a PSP. "Other console makers want to force you to buy brand 'S' memory and use a brand 'S' format to play on brand 'S' TV's," he told the site. "We just want things to work for the gamer and be as easy as possible." Also, according to the same article in Time magazine in which Microsoft chairman Bill Gates revealed that Halo 3 was launching around the same time as the PlayStation 3, "You can plug your iPod into the Xbox 360 and play songs off that too." Boss!

Bogus or not bogus?: Not bogus.

Probably it works by pure change, and in Microsoft likely there are some very upset people.
This:"Other console makers want to force you to buy brand 'S' memory and use a brand 'S' format to play on brand 'S' TV's," from a Microsoft spokesperson is just embarassing.

assuming by some chance it was compatible with the psp, what possible use could it be? it's not as though it'd have the functionality of the GBA/Gamecube linkup, since none of the games would work with each other.

I suspect this 'iPod' functionality won't work well.

Remember, the iPod's DRM does not allow you to rip songs OFF an iPod unless you're on the computer that originally uploaded it to that iPod. You have to crack the iPod to do that.
So how can you plug the iPod into the XBox 360 and transfer songs off?
The only thing I can think of is that it transfers songs off that are copied to it like a hard drive instead of synced...

the iPod's dataport can also be used to play music, IIRC, so that might be what they're referring to.

They said in the speech just a bit ago that the PSP can be used as a PS3 controller. Yup.

Dont know if you can use the dataport, might be.

But if iTunes is running on a computer, you can access it through

Nifty feature that :)

This was a rumor, Microsoft has not made any mention of it.

I just watched the Microsoft E3 press conference. They don't mention the PSP and I Pod by name but they do specifically mention it will connect and work with the devices of their competitors. They also showed this image as an example:

Its clearly an Ipod and a PSP in those pics.
