My monitor has died

Post by Phil Skayhan »

It was 9 years old.

At 8:51 PM EST I was browsing through the Fox News thread, enjoying the friendly discourse when I came across the latest post by Ultra. Suddenly the screen began to flicker and then there was a loud popping noise. Dropping to one knee I began to pray to God to save my monitor, I explained to the Almighty that it had done no harm to anyone and had only brought joy into my life; first in the form of X-Wing and then later in the beauty that is Internet Porn. I begged him not to take it away from me.

Alas, the only answer I received was further pops as buzzing noises from the monitor and the sad smell of burning components. So I did what any merciful person would do in the same situation....I pulled the plug.

It is now buried in a place of honor in the yard. I dropped it upon the head of the rotting corpse of Darkstar and refilled the grave.

From this experience I have come to realize three great truths
1) There is no God
2) There are no computer stores open after 9 PM
3) Month old dead people smell.

Ultra! I shall have my vengence

lol. the flyback transformer got a microfracture or other breach in the casing allowing the HV to arc into the other components. unless it took out the proc in the monitor, it's just a matter of pulling the top off, finding the fried components, replacing them, locating the casing failure and sealing it with silicone, then putting it back together and it'll work for a good few years more.

Assuming you know what you're doing (since them capacitors store a lot of energy).

I still have a 20" MultiSync 5D monitor that's working (a bit blurry now and I can't find the convergence controls) from 1989. In storage now (I have a nicer monitor) but it works great :D

I had a 17" monitor go kaput on the 4th of July. I learned that

1) There are not many computer places open on the 4th.
2) Those that are, tend to be expensive retail shops.

I paid a lot more than I should have for a little 14" monitor as a replacement.
Thats what I get for my impatience.

My home moniter has an annoying little slight wave like water running down the moniter front for the first 10-30 minutes of running, then it clears up, any idea of what that is, or what thats a sign of?(its not an 80's moniter, but it has several years behind it and has seen several hard drives, motherboards, and CPU's as well as operating systems go [think I had it back when I ran windows 3.11, not sure though])

There will never be a resolution in the evolution vs creationism debate because neither side can conclusively prove that they are right. The creationists can't prove that they're right becuase they're not, and the evolutionists can't prove that they're right because the creationists are too damn stupid to listen.

Ya know, this reminds me. I've been meaning to pop the cover on my monitor and give it a good blast of air. :) Dust has a tendency to get in the most insane of places...
