A proud moment

Post by Alex Moon »

I called my Aunt today, and during the course of the conversation she informed me that she was showing her boys Star Wars for the first time. They had watched Episode IV last night and were going to watch Episode V tonight. I got all giddy and had a warm feeling in my belly.

Anyone else have this kind of experience?

NOOOOOO!!

*pant pant*
I'm conviced that the Sidious-Palpatine revelation is the ultimate shocker in the hexology (yeah, I made up that word), delivered in chronological order. We just don't see it because
a) We personally only felt the shock of the Anakin-Vader link.
b) We didn't even consider that Sidious-Palp is supposed to be a shocker because the connection is so damn obvious.

However, regarding the first point, in the big picture, is Anakin-Vader really that significant? After watching only episodes IV and V, Anakin is just a name and a brief description, though admittedly the revelation that Obi-Wan lied is slightly shocking.

As for the second point, perhaps it was only obvious because we already knew it. Assuming I'm right about that, the connection between the elderly, benevolent Senator-turned-Chancellor, and the phantom menace itself, carries far more impact.

Or, you know, not. Never mind.

Sort of. I got my godson a Playskool Xwing for Christmas. We had to help him open it but as soon as he saw what was underneath the wrapper he got all excited and shouted "AIRPLANE! OPEN!! OPEN!!" Brought a smile to my face. And his dad is a Star Wars nut like me so he'll have plenty of education about what it actually is.

Bah, since "Vader" means "father" in my own language, I wasnt that suprised. It was always like, ok Vader is someone's father but from who? Probably Luke or so

If you show someone who knows nothing about SW the movies in production order, they won't be surprised by the Sidious/Palp connection. However, if you show them in chronological order, they won't be surprised by the Vader/Luke connection. So either way has a good surprise, and a ruined surprise...pick your poison?

I'm a long way off from having kids (I hope! lol), but I wonder which order I'm going to show them Star Wars....hmm.....

Oops, I kind of constructed my previous post earlier on. What I meant to say is that "I beleive the Sidious-Palpatine revelation is more significant than the Vader-Anakin revelation, because of the following reasons."

The a) and b) there are the reasons why I believe it to be so, and hence, why the PT should be shown before the OT.
