Anyone who knows much about Batman might find the following somewhat amusing. :)

#45 ZORRO (DON DIEGO DE VEGA) (Tyrone Power) in THE MARK OF ZORRO (20th Century Fox, 1940)

#46 BATMAN (BRUCE WAYNE) (Michael Keaton) in BATMAN (Warner Bros., 1989)

It's also interesting that some of the heroes in the top 50 aren't exactly the good guys. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid were robbers. Thelma and Louise may have been justified in killing the one guy but after that they certainly weren't the good guys.

As for the villains. I think that Norman Bates will drop further down over the next couple of decades. I can't imagine the original having the same sort of impact on new viewers and I just don't buy Vince Vaughn as a suitable replacement for Anthony Perkins.
By the pricking of my thumb,
Something wicked this way comes.
Open, locks,
Whoever knocks.

Vader has a few things going for him. A big one is James Earl Jones - he is an amazingly powerful voice actor (in addition to being a damn fine screen actor).

He can make relatively innocuous lines sound ominous like "Perhaps I can find new ways to motivate them" (I can picture a throat being crushed by an invisible hand)

Or Dark Vader. That used to really piss me off when I was a kid. I'd get in blazing rows with other kids in the playground who didn't know Star Wars for shit and saw fit to lecture me on his fucking name. Ah ... memories.
Ironically, in France his name is Dark Vador...

IIRC, Darth Vader is Dutch for Dark Father. Could be mistaken, though.

I do know the general Sith naming technique is to take a word that typically starts with "in" and then leave out the "in" part.

Maul and Tyranus weren't proper Sith. Maul was little more than a living weapon, and Tyranus was basically there to keep the apprentice seat warm.

Sidious (and Tyranus in Maul's case).

Regardless of the fact that Maul was a "mere animal" (Dooku's words) and Tyranus was a stepping stone, they were true sith, in that they were the fully ordained apprentices of the reigning Sith Lord. The master's end intention for them is not relevant in this particular arguement.

You are. While "vader" does indeed mean "father", "darth" isn't a Dutch word.

So he's just Darth Dad :)

Worldwide, it is absolutely Darth Vader. Most people just know him as Space Hitler...

Thanks, Overlord. Don't think you really needed to break it, but whatever.
