Worst Non-ST/SW Starfighter Ever?

The first starfighter you can purchase in Privateer 2. 2 gun hardpoints, 2 missile hardpoints, and 2 systems hardpoints, crap armor, crap shields, crap maneuverability, and crap speed. If I can find the name, I'll post it.

Oh crap forgot about that thing .... what's worse is there's a huge period of the game where you're stuck with that piece of shit that's only one step up from it ... the Shaman IIRC.

Yeah, Shaman's not that good, but it's better than the Straith (ha! found it!). Better than the Velacia, too, which is surprising since it only costs 85% as much. Icarus is also junk considering the price, since it's got a bad gun layout and isn't that quick.

Duress was most expensive and most maneuverable, but I preferred the Freij Mk II since it had slightly more damage taking ability. Freij Mk II with 2 Kraven Mk IV and 3 Mass Ion Cannon...

I hate going off topic, but Soviet fighter jets' main advantage were not that they looked sinister, but that they usually were much more nimble than contemporary NATO fighters due to the fact that USA and USSR governments set different requirements to plane manufacturers until the late 1960s. (the Fishbed prototype was build in 1956 if I recall correctly)

If it's about practicality, I vote for..... well, the Dark Eldar's Razorwing from Warhammer 40K. It's almost twice as big as it's sister, the Raven, but is only marginally more powerfully armed. However, it looks much cooler.

For me the Zeypher 109 Raider (B5) with it's huge target profile, weak ass 20 millejoule 42mm bolters, and it manuvers like a pregant Bantha (mandatory SW joke)

The Devastator Bomber from Wing Commander Prophecy. Slow, wallowing pos that's almost impossible to maneuver. Strong weapons and armor that helps nothing at all. Weaponry and technology based on misconceptions of WC 4. And soooo ugly...

It was somewhat slower then the Shrike, had greater shields, armor, turret defenses. Its main gun could kill enemy fighters instantly (which I did multiple times), does not have to worry about running out of Torpedoes near as much as the Shrike, and carried more torpedoes.

It is superior to the Shrike in almost every single way.

Amen to that. I regularly went Devil Ray hunting in it (the Black Devestator is a bit better since you get a tachyon gun rather than the Stormfire - no fixed ammo load). Those five turrets are just gravy (especially when I replaced whem with tachyon turrets in WCPEDIT ) and the plasma gun rocks.

Then again, I've always enjoyed flying heavy fighters or bombers in space combat sims.

The Shrike was more like the MAGNIFICENT, AWESOME, BOW DOWN AND WORSHIP THUNDERBOLT VII than a bomber. The Shrike was much easier to fight in IMO.

Worst fighter- the Hellcat. Like YUK. Piece of crap.

Yeah, the Shrike was the true successor to the Thud VII, but I still didn't enjoy flying it that much. The Black Shrike was better but rather underpowered (not enough juice for the guns).

Staying off-topic the main reason for that was that USSR pilots were expected to do a lot more work than NATO pilots. Most MiGs used compressed-air systems rather than hydraulics for things like the landing gear. It saved weight, but made routine landings more of a hassle. While an American pilots just had to remember "flip switch," a Russian pilot had to remember something along the lines of "flip switch, press toggle, wait for light to turn on, flip another switch." It was a matter of building a plane with no extra weight, even though pilot stress went up and pilot effectiveness overall went down. Many early MiGs also lacked radar (the Fresco comes to mind), which also saved weight, though they had to be vectored to a target by ground control. It also followed the different philosophies of the air forces. The Russians were dogfighters, who preferred to engage in close range turning fights. The Americans were following the traditions of the P-38 and P-47 by designing "boom and zoom" fighters that would streak in on a target, hit, and fly away to outside of weapons range, turn, and attack again. The F-4 Phantom and F-8 Crusader were both quicker than contemporary Russian jets, and could pull equivalent turns, but couldn't hold the turns due to mass. It was a different design philosophy and technological capability that led to the differences.

The precedents of WC4 were ignored in WC:P in favor of ideas that were uneccessary, silly or just plain stupid. IMHO. WC4 was the best game in the series - WC:P was just pathetic.
