And I know that SW ships have long range and great firepower, but that's not the point.

sorry about the thread necro i didn't realise it had been said before.
However my point was if the gunners on a ship the size of a cruiser can hit something at that distance then surely they can hit a fed cruiser from several light minutes away.

Something tells me that Scrubula has ignored the fact that Han gets shot at by a large room of Stormies in ANH and amazingly he doesn't get hit despite the large volume of fire. Now even if you every Stormie in the room was so drunk they were seeing double they'd still be able to hit Han at least once with that mass firing.
That scene provides substantial proof that Stormies are excellent marksman because anyone can fire a lot of shots at a target and hit at least once, but a marksman can fire the same number of shots, and if given orders to miss be make it look like your shooting to kill, group the shots round the target without actually hitting said target.
