SW TV Series - what do you want?

Post by weemadando »

If it is to be set between RotS and ANH, then there are some key bits of back-story I'd just LOVE to see done.

Ideally, I would like this to take a semi-linked, semi-standalone feel. Where you bounce between several characters, each with their own stories and each story taking several episodes.

Big things I want to see:

The formation of the Rebellion - political wrangling, backdoor dealing, all the rest.

The defection of the Incom staff - could play out as an awesome episode with Rebel spec ops going into an Imperial held world to escort a few important people out.

The remnant Jedi - maybe have a tale of a lone Jedi hiding from the Empire, bouncing from planet to planet always barely a step ahead of COMPNOR or better, barely a step ahead of someone like Mara Jade.

The underbelly - I want to see Nar Shadda on my fucking screen. I want people to see that the Empire doesn't rule with an iron fist everywhere.

Space battles - they don't even have to be epic. A few Z-95s taking out a convoys escorts in a Rebel smash'n'grab raid. Maybe a VSD in a skirmish with some rebel corvettes and frigates.

The unveiling of the ISD - I want to see the look on various faces the first time one of these bad-boys comes out to play.

[Marvin from HhttG]Nothing. I don't trust them to make a good tv show, and I hope they cancel the idea. I'm scared to death of the possibility they're going to wreck absolutely everything and turn it into an Enterprise style train-wreck. Don't ask me why I'm so pessimistic, but a "direct observation" source that's not one of the movies? NO. I'm telling you now, this will end in tears. [/Marvin from HhttG]

A second clone war. It'd be the ideal scenario.

Here's an easy way to sum it up.

Make it like Neo-BSG and not ST: VOY. Another way would be to say, make it good and not shit.

I feel the unveiling of the Mk. I ISD would be somewhat less amazing given the dagger shaped ships near a klick long already that were in the Republic's armoury before. If they went from those diplomatic cruisers to giant wedges of doom in battleship grey, then it'd be great.

I have visions of it being a horrific cross between Enterprise and the OC.

I don't know - the sheer intimidation factor of the ISD is yet to be matched by ANY prequel trilogy design...

You can't put the kind of care and attention into a TV show that you would into a feature film. They will have to find ways to "fill airtime" and generate shortcuts to make the writing job easier. Whatever shortcuts and fillers they use will no doubt piss us off badly.

Naturally it won't be perfect. But if they can do it as well as the Young Indiana Jones series, then it'll be entertaining even if it may potentially bring about certain plot points that we dislike or technological niggles. The ST fans had to put up with it when the series was reimagined, so now SW has this chance, we'll just have to accept it won't be 100% amazing as much a we'd want it to.

The reason the ISD is so intimidating is what its doing in the OT. ANH, we see the Blockade Runner first- woah. Then WHOOOSH- wtf is that?! Same in TESB- the tiny Falcon being chased by one of those "superships" (RotJ novelization).

If the Venator had been introduced in RotS with say, the classic ventral bow coming into shot, I think it would make it intimidating to. As it is, the Venator rocks my world. I love every part of it, even the flaws.

Still, they could make it good. If they build up descent characters, and pay attention to detail, then it may work out. Still, I wonder who the minor character from the movies will be.

I think, if done in the vein of the Republic clone wars comics (issues 49+), it could be great. There's not a single bad issue in those, and they have the same episodic format a TV show does.

That's why it'd be awesome if the show takes place against the backdrop of a second clone war. There's potential for a fantastic story arc there. Plus, the Imperials would for the most part be the good guys. It won't happen, but it should. :P

Young Tarkin, for sure. They got a popular farscape actor for a role with no lines. I think that one is a definite. Jimmy Smits possibly as well, bigtime. He's a primarily TV actor- though whether he's minor or not ..?

I would like to see Imperial troops actually kicking some ass and routing out rebel terroist cells

A couple stories about lone jedis, but dont go overboard with this idea

Something pretty damn cool would be a SST (the movie)-esque take on the whole thing. With it following the Imperial forces exclusively with a "propaganda" edge to it.

"In other news, a Rebel cell was eliminated on Corellia today before they could steal bacta processing plant used in a neo-natal care unit of a free clinic provided by the Imperial government." - "would you like to know more?"
