That's the whole point!

A lot of people try to gussy things up; make it overly complicated, when
you don't need to! Basic emotion lines can be very powerful if you set
it up just right; instead of long passages between Anakin and Amidala
that are like bad shakespearan prose, have him stick to the basics,
getting Amidala little presents; giving her little words of appreciation, etc.

Finally, he was raised in a temple by a bunch of emotion denying
hermits, so where is he getting all these cheesy emotion larded oneliners
from?

Could simply be his way of assimilating a normal life as he has seen from the society around him. I expect they have soap operas in the SW universe too...

This guy wasn't cloistered in the temple for 20 years, with his only
contact being cheesy soap operas on Hypercomm Channel 2021.

He actually went out on missions with OB1; and got exposed to The
Real World (TM)

I can only dare imagine the people he met on those missions then.

And I can't see OB1 without thinking of the gene from the parasite Leishmania which also has genes named R2D2, C3PO and JEDI.

Plenty's already been said, but I can't bring myself to not post my own response. I LOVED the irony of Anakin's visions being self-fullfilling and the Jedi finding what he turned to the Sith for. And so many, "oh shit!" moments, where you knew things were taking a sudden turn for the worse.

Minor gripes:
-General Grevious was not as I expected, and I'm not just talking about how he was a Jedi killing machine in the cartoons and got rape by Obi Wan in the movie, though that's part of it. He seemed a little too crazy to really be this great strategist, and even though the opening crawl says he's a droid, he's clearly a cyborg.
-Some of the romance dialoge was pretty bad, though better than before. The whole, "That's because I'm so in love" "No, it's because I'm so in love with you" bit felt real, like the goofy "I love you" "I love you more" arguements real people might have.
-Thrown me to the floor you have, retreat and go into exile I must! I just didn't get why Yoda suddenly ran away. I would've liked it more if, say, Palpy had destroyed his lightsaber and then Yoda ran.
-I really didn't need to see Vader all burned to hell and then getting operated on. Showing him on fire, then showing Palpy coming across his rather indistinct form, and then the rise of Vader would've been better IMHO. I understand the contrast between his surgery and Padme's giving birth that Lucas made, I just didn't like it. Probably because I'd heard a rumor that Padme would be giving birth while Vader was killing the younglings and was looking forward to that.
-The "NOOOOOO" was a bit too much, but I liked how shit started breaking all around him while it was happening. It gave the feel that Vader was so unable to deal with it at that moment that he was just lashing out at everything.

Well, in the Novelization, Yoda realizes he can't defeat Sidious and decides
to beat a tactical retreat to train the next generation of jedi who CAN defeat
Sidious...

Books. They are most likely his only real exposure to the concept of romance, since Jedi are not permitted to hang out looking for hot chicks.

I was unaware that women's Romance Novels were to be found all over the Jedi Temple, unless Yoda's really a woman :P

It was funny, but I found this scene about as equally moving as any other in the film, and found myself rooting for him as well, actually wanting him to make it, but knowing he wouldn't. The kid wasn't going down without a fight, and did a fairly good job before his death.

The librarian was a woman

Anyway, I got the impression that the Jedi Temple's libraries were fairly comprehensive, so they might include things like novels.

That's one thing missing from the movie; a total trash n burn of
the archives and libraries to protect the force-sensitive and those
few who escaped Order 66 from the Empire when Yoda and OB1
were there. If I was them, I'd have gotten what info I needed, then
trashed the archives.

One more thing I'm not even sure I like or dislike: the curse of the blue lightsaber is broken. (Ever notice that in the other movies, a Jedi NEVER defeats a Sith while wielding a blue lightsaber?)

That's what one of Lucas' primary goals was with the whole PT project, to change our perception on the original films now that we have the whole picture. So many things now taking on new meaning -- as I've said, it's going to be fun once the ROTS DVD comes out, to watch all 6 films back-to-back and see the story in its entierty.

I was annoyed that Qui-Gon's non-disappearance was never really explained. They just said "Oh, he found a way to communicate from the other side" but they never said that that's why he didn't disappear and why Yoda and Obi-Wan did.

Twenty years of discussion with Qui Gonn and learning from him might have led to an improvement of technique for the other two when the time came.

Hopefully, it'll be restored for the DVD. I'm still shocked that it got the axe given how Lucas promised it would be addressed by ROTS.

Anyway, here's my take on the matter:

From the spoilers I had read previously, I had seen it as that Qui-Gon knew the technique for preserving his identity and achieving immortality, but the injuries he suffered at Darth Maul's hands disrupted his concentration and ability. Thus, the transition was only partially sucessful and he didn't vanish into the Force. He's retained his identity, but he can't fully manifest himself, hence only his voice and not spirit. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if he was with Obi-Wan, Yoda, and Anakin at Endor, though not seen.

If anyone cares, I actually see the immature nature of Anakin's love for Padme as being a significant insight into his character. Anakin has tremendous power, but he really isn't a grown-up. He handles problems and significant lifestyle issues very poorly. Padme cares a great deal about him, but she is unable to help him because she herself has similar problems. While Obi-Wan can claim that only Sith deal in absolutes, it's pretty clear that Padme does, too. Her arguments in every film are based around a dogmatic view of government and responsibility, and so her guidance for Anakin is ultimately unsatisfying.

GREAT MOVIE

Cool detailed visuals of the opening battle. My favorite part was where that beam weapon banged a Separist ship into a half.

However, I think it could've been done better if they showed more of the battle while following the Anakin & Obi-Wan plot. Visual feasts are never too much.

Battle of Kashyyyk. Too short.

Anakin/Padme. My only problem with their plot is the scene when they first meet after rescuing Palpatine. Awkward.

Palpatine/Anakin interaction. Very, very well done. True bad asses make people think they're doing the good thing. While they're totally doing very bad stuff. Same with the establishment of the Empire.

Anakin/Obi-Wan interaction. Very good.

Dooku sword fight. Short, but I liked the move Anakin did when cutting off Dooku's hands.

Windu vs. Palpatine. Very good. My impression is that Palpatine doesn't have the sword techniques to defeat Windu. But he used his overall strategy to get Anakin involved, and eventually kill Windu.

Grevous vs. Obi-Wan. Very, very well done. I always think Obi-Wan is sort of like the intelligent fighter. This battle kind of proved my thoughts.

Anakin vs. Obi-Wan. DAMN well done. Tense, well paced, good choreography. Good, impressive ending too. And I liked the way Obi-Wan ended it.

Yoda vs. Sidious. Again, a very damn good fight.

Order 66. Most. Tragic. Scene.

I have no problem with such an order passing through the Republic Government system. It was implied in the SW Insider Holonet News that Palpatine kept on taking over committees and stuff. He could easily take control of the Clonetrooper training program and plant anything he wants to the troopers. And due to "national security reasons" the Kaminoans wouldn't know the details either.

Complaints:

No Mon Mothma. I was always expecting her to be in the prequels. Now she's in none of them. Too bad. Gotta get my hands on the DVD in the future.

Short battles. See above.

He was also given an experimental midichlorian transfusion from the corpse of Sifo Dias, as a test bed to create an artificial Sith, IIRC, although there doesn't seem to be much result from that aspect.
That story is not canon.

Thank GOD.

That Dooku trained Grievous however is absolute canon, of course. It's a pity Obi-Wan's rejoinder to Grievous' comment was cut.

Great movie.

Some scenes were a bit annoying, but overall I liked it. What absolutely kicked ass was Yoda, particularly the scenes where the clones try to kill him and where royal guards try to detain him. Don't fuck with Yoda, got it?

Wrong, Gunray really did think he was going to Dooku for help and away from Sidious; he found out Dooku was Sith and Sidious his master after the war began and they had no choice.
