Lightsaber continuity...

Post by weemadando »

In RotS, Anakin's saber is blue, come ANH, Luke's father's saber is green. Then in ESB, its blue again?

Are lightsabers colour variable with a twist of a dial? Or has some tweaking/maintenance taken place?

Luke's Saber was blue in ANH.

There was a colour fuck-up in the MF scene with the training remote in ANH for the DVD release of the special editions which was one of many niggles that stopped me buying it. But I don't know, I'm unsure if I read something saying colour can be a property of the crystal inside.

I certainly don't recall a colour error in the main films other than that discrepancy.

There's a lot of fluff from non canon sources (read games) about lightsabers being "crystal-coloured", but the stuff-up with the colours on the MF kinda explain it. Though on Tatooine it is a very pale green, almost white...

If you want to get technical in the "original movie" as far as I remember, Luke's saber was BLUE in ANH except in the scene where he's training on the MF, then it's WHITE.

In the Special Editions it was starting to look a bit greenish in Ben's Hut.

The new DVD colored it GREEN in all of the scenes except a few second shots on the MF where it was blue. There's even a frame or two where it's both green AND blue simultaneously!

It was intended to be the same saber in both ANH & ESB so it should be blue throughout (and they did it correctly on the Bonus DVD menus), but oh well. Lowry Digital screwed up.

Yeah, there's no continuity error, it was just a colour balancing screw up. Lowry must have been asleep those days.

Somebody should have been paying attention. There was no reason for Luke's lightsaber to be any color other than blue except in ROTJ.

Ah well... hopefully it won't take another 20 years to fix this saber gaffe!

Also, in RotS, did anyone else notice how pointed the saber ends were?
They aren't rounded like they are in the other five.

Yeah, i saw that but i didn't realise the difference. I doubt it counts as a continuity issue though, and if it comes down to it we can just say the tip is shaped like a semicircle wedge that only we see certain angles of.
