I saw the movie. It was awesome. My only real comment is that I think Palptine was quite justified in taking on Windu. I mean, what did Windu do when he got there? Did he ask if Palpatine was handing over the emergency power? Did he make any accusations whatsoever? No. He ignited lightsabers and placed him under arrest. Or tried to, anyway. :)

And on what grounds? By his own admission earlier he didn't know Palpatine was a Sith Lord ("If this turns out to be true..." or whatever) and he didn't even give Palpatine a chance to hand over power! All he did was walk in, ignite sabers, and say it's over, bitch. So, when Palpatine responds with, "So it's treason then." it was spot in, IMO.

I think that was really, really cool.

My only other comment is, as most others have said, the "Order 66" scenes were just great. And the music for it was fantastic. One of the best scenes, IMPO.

I wonder if the only reason Yoda survived was because he was:

A) that much more powerful,
B) not distracted at the time like the others seemed to be, or
C) he had some forewarning because he could feel Jedi dying all over the galaxy?

Odd that the thing needs something like that. I never even saw them as proton torps given the lack of any real nuke blasts.

Not really. Actually not really at all. Most of that is suggestive memory planting, or fabrication of what you want to remember. The brain is still undergoing development anyway, so any memories of birth are bullshit.

I LOVED this movie, and particularly two things.

1. The Space Battle. Regardless of how brief it was, it was FUCKING VIVID, with awesome details such as the auto-loading mass driver guns, and the ship explosions.

2. Palpatine. It is incredibly cool how they show Palpatine in this movie; instead of being on the side-line and behind the scenes, he is active, both in combat (the Emperor wielding a lightsaber was something I had wanted to see for a long time). Furthermore, his little speech on the legendary Sith Lord was intriguing.

That said, I had one small grievance. It kind of bothered me how they had basically "pacified" Padme. She is pregnant, but that doesn't me she just automatically transforms into a submissive, weak character, particularly when she was so strong-willed in the first movie.

One weird point; did anybody notice the hairstyle Anakin had, and how that and his outfit made him look a lot like Luke in RoTJ? They probably did that on purpose, and I wonder why.

One other thing that fascinated me was the irony of Mace Windu. When he had Palpatine by the balls, Anakin might not have attacked him if he had merely taken Palpatine into arrest. Instead, Windu submits to his anger, and is destroyed by Palpatine for it. Not only is that ironic, but it seems to make him a foil for Yoda.

Here's the whole speech:

I love how he's still spinning here. "Hunted down and defeated" as opposed to "hunted down and exterminated" or something similar. ;)

Anyone thought of how this compared to the Dark Empire graphic novel? I remember it being said that Lucas liked that a great deal, and gave it out to his staff.

The fall of Skywalker to the dark side (in both cases with the belief that doing so would help loved ones) and the overall character of the Emperor, his obscenely intricate machinations and the psychotic UNLIMITED POWER!!!11 fighting style he employs... I wonder if the comic actually was the inspiration for any of that.

Actually, if I recall, Dark Empire was and is Lucas' favourite EU entry.

Just saw it today...

WOW. Best of them all.

Good points:
  • Better dialogue for Padme-Anakin, only 2-3 stinkers up to the Jedi Temple "incident", from then they performed quite well.
Hayden Christiansen was great in the Mustafar showdown, it's clear that it wasn't the actor's fault for his wooden acting in AOTC.
Palpatine. That guy is Eeeeviiiiiil. I liked how we got some insight into his coming to be the Emperor, in the OT that was a given, he was the ruler of the Evil Empire. But here we see him become the Emperor, we witness the transformation from scheeming politician to ruthless ruler.
Battles. BEST OPENING, EVER. The Jedi fighters' ballet at the opening, amidst the battle is a masterpiece. I would have liked to see more of Kaashyyk's battle, especially the Dreadnaught in action, but, oh well.
The final confrontation between Anakin and Obi Wan. Both actors were so into it, they became their characters.
Yoda vs. Palpatine. Okay, so Yoda in Geonosis looked goofy, but this time it came out more believable. And the cuts between Mustafar and Coruscant played real well.
Oh, yeah, the editing, both in the final lightsaber battles and the Padme/Vader life-death-life duality.
Sound... The use of sound was more powerful than in the previous movies, I wasn't too crazy about the chatering droids aboard the Invisible Hand, but in general, both the music and FX helped to tell the story.
Light and colour... Padme's dresses, the use of shadows by Anakin and Palpatine, the reds and oranges of Mustafar, Alderaan's shininness, the Jedi Purge... Lucas continues to build his movies on multiple levels.
The CGI had more nuances this time... Grievous looked quite good (his coughing was quite the touch), Yoda wasn't plastic looking, particle effects (especially, Greivous play with the lightsabers) were great, but they can't still make oil look realistical...
    Jar-Jar kept his mouth shut.
    TARKIN!
Bad Points:
  • Okay, Anakin's turn to the Dark Side could be a little more dramatic, than simply leaning on one knee and accepting being Palpatine's pupil.
    What's with the pointy lightsabers?
I want to know who's paying for all the travel expenses, everyone has a starship and just dashes around the Galaxy like it's their own backyard!
Padme's ship looked like shit with those dangling engines... They seemed tacked on as an afterthought in the trabitional Naboo design.
Anakin - Padme dialogue still needed more work, but much better than AOTC, so this is a minor point.
    Hum, that's it really.

Creepiest moments:

1: When the Vader mask is turned on for the first time, that point in time between the hissing sound of the machines, and the mechanical sound of Vader breathing for the first time.
2: Vader with Palpatine side by side, watching the building of the Death Star.

Funniest moment:

Yoda walking in and force pushing the two Red Guards. The audience had a chuckle with that one!

The movie was really all about Anakin's fall. Even the R2D2/C3PO duo was left aside for his story.

Nice to see some sense grown into the clones, they kneeled and took cover, still kept dying by the droves, and had some inventive ways to deal with the droids. (And where the heck is Sev? What happened to him? --- Those who've played Republic Commando, know who I'm talking about..)

There's a TON of analogs. How about Luke and Lando bringing a Star Destroyer (enemy ship) to Coruscant to fight Imperials, and then Luke MIRACULOUSLY guides it to a CRASHLANDING on the surface, then he begins to be corrupted by recordings and relics of the Emperor in the palace. There's OODLES of similarities.

The only people we see using hyperdrive equipped ships are the military, Jedi, a Senator in the Galactic Senate, and the Emperor. Hardly your average Joes.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The final chapter of the "Star Wars" movie saga grossed a record $50 million from its first 24 hours in North American theaters, the highest box office tally for a single day, according to studio estimates issued on Friday.

"Star Wars: Episode III -- Revenge of the Sith," the last installment in the six-part epic George Lucas launched nearly 30 years ago, surpassed the previous opening-day box office record set by "Spider-Man 2" -- $40.4 million -- and the $44.8 million single-day benchmark "Shrek 2" grossed in its fourth day of release, according to Exhibitor Relations Inc.

The unprecedented first-day success of "Revenge of the Sith," which opened at 12:01 a.m. on Thursday in sold-out theaters packed with costumed fans, sets the film firmly on course to becoming one of the biggest blockbusters of all time.

"We've never seen this before," said Paul Dergarabedian, president of box office tracking service Exhibitor Relations. "This is an unprecedented achievement."

At the very least, "Sith" appeared on track to eclipse the $110 million grossed by its immediate predecessor, "Attack of the Clones," through its first weekend three years ago.

"Clones," which also opened on a Thursday, grossed $30.1 million its first day.

Distributor 20th Century Fox, a unit of News Corp. Ltd., debuted "Revenge of the Sith" on about 9,400 screens in nearly 3,700 theaters in the United States and Canada. The movie also opened internationally.

Back from watching the movie a second time - the end was still nice, but the beginning bugged me even more than the first time. I was ready to rate the movie at five stars after the first showing, but I think I'll degrade my estimate into a four stars now - IMO, the battles in the beginning were just plain boring.

With her in an (apparently) fully equipped hospital, being overseen by medical droids with the advantage of thousands of years of medical research... and then die by something as simple as an internal organ malfunction?

The "she's lost her will to live"-line was much more belivable, IMO.

Have a very nice day.

Actually, if you ask me, the entire battle of Kashyyk was a little unnecessary... but fortunately Lucas seemed to realize that as well, so it was kept brief. What could have been deleted to make space for the birth of the rebellion stuff was the rescue of the Chancellor in the beginning - sure, they got rid of Dooku there, but otherwise it seemed to have about zero significance to the plot. Same with Obi-Wan's mission to destroy Grievous... cut those two battles and cover them with saying that the war's been almost won in the opening scrawl, add stuff about the birth of the rebellion, perhaps even more of Palpatine's machinations and manipulation... and it would've been perfect. IMO.

Well, here's how I see it: If you found out that the man you loved has slaughtered all of his comrades in arms in your name and that the man you helped get elected to the position Chancellor back in “Phantom” has seized power and overturned and spit upon everything you ever believed in, then, well you’d feel a little depressed too, wouldn’t you?

Minor nitpick: That is Napoleonic era. So nyah.

And that Venator seemed to still have the nifty inexplicably hangar-bay mounted beam gun. Maybe it's to counter the lack of big guns on the bottom? (Which makes me wonder if an ISD could/should/does mount one)

Ona side note, I would now like to see gangplank equipped Venators in the Special Edition/EU. The more I think about it, the more it seems bizzarely fitting with that scene.
