about Sidious and Plagueis

Post by Superman »

I'm at the bookstore right now looking at the ROTS Visual Dictionary, and it says plainly that Sidious was trained by Darth Plagueis. I duuno how much canon weight this has, but that's what it says about Sidious.

Btw, under Mace Windu it says that users of his particular kind of light saber "skirt particularly close to the dark side."

Interesting...

The VD is very high canon.

I'll bet good credits that there was a line in the original script somewhere with Sideous saying that he was Plagueis's apprentice, and it was cut at some point due to time constraints (ultimately, it would have nothing to do with Anakin, and do nothing to advance the story, but would sound cool.).

I'm pretty sure that in the novelization that Palpatine admits that he was Plagueis' apprentice. Although, I could have sworn that he killed Plagueis before he learned the part about immortality.

The movie does a good job of inferring that Plagueis was his master. If Palpy did kill him too soon, he would not have told Anakin, since that was the carrot he used to lure Anakin to the dark side.
You see this? You see how my body is glowing like that? Yeah, a lot of people can't do that. You want some? You want some of the glowing? Look, man, your soul? I'm gonna totally chew on it and floss with your spirit. I read that somewhere, but I'll do it.

Didn't the movie make this quite obvious? :?

"Darth Plagueis taught his apprentice everything he knew, etc"

later, after Anakin asks how Palpatine knew about the Dark Side: "My master taught me everything he knew."

To me it was pretty obvious that the movie was trying to imply that Palpy was Plagueis's apprentice. They could've made it more obvious, but I suppose they figured it was obvious enough.
