Christian Sciencetists?
I recently came across this denomination with a rather puzzeling name. Can anyone give me a run down on what their about or point me to a helpful website?

Does this denomination have anything to do with the Christian Science Monitor? If so, then they aren't a particularly rabid bunch... most of their articles I've encountered seem to be pretty well-reasoned.

Not as far as I know. The CSM is supposedly well-respected. The Christian Science Church, on the other hand, espouses belief in prayer healing, requiring its adherents to abstain from medical treatments of any kind.kheegan wrote:Does this denomination have anything to do with the Christian Science Monitor? Read Zod's link. Among other statements:Cpl Kendall wrote:Umm please tell me your joking.
Here is another article on the subject.Christian Science claims to prove through the healing of disease and other difficulties that the understanding of God and his spiritual creation is as effective now as it was in Jesus' time. Its adherents, therefore, rely on "divine law" in times of sickness instead of resorting to medical and other material means. Christian Scientists do not use doctors, medicine, or immunizations. Christian Science Practitioners are used to " help people through the false reality of illness." Instead, proper prayer and training are employed to battle the "non-reality" of illness. (The right of Christian Science parents to withhold medical treatment from their children has many times been challenged in court.)

Less sensible, actually. Scientologists do not refuse medical help because they rely on the power of prayer to heal things.Nephtys wrote:Christian Science by it's very nature is a contradiction. No, they're not scientologists. Thank Goddess, they're a BIT more sensable than that. That's about all I know.

As a warning, be careful about this info
Here is the main page

They list "Roman Catholics" as a cult in the same category as Scientology. So this person giving the details definitely has an axe to grind. Based on my quick review and the references to various evangelic groups, I'd say he is an evangelical Christian - likely of the most doctrinaire variety.

Except when it deals with psychiatric illnesses, since they detest psychiatry.fgalkin wrote:Less sensible, actually.
