GUNSTAR VS. ANY TIE type
Moderator: NecronLord
I wonder how effective gunstars would really be in a contest such as this. In concept, they seem awfully close to the "destroyer" fighters the Germans pioneered in WWII with planes like the ME110. The concept just did not work out well in reality. Generally speaking, large, less maneuvarable craft with gun turrests have fared poorly in combat with smaller, agile one-man fighters.
Except the Gunstar we saw was rather fast and manueverable.Perinquus wrote:I wonder how effective gunstars would really be in a contest such as this. Not as maneuverable as a TIE fighter. Probably as much less maneuverable than a TIE as an ME110 was than Spitfire.Alyeska wrote:Except the Gunstar we saw was rather fast and manueverable.Perinquus wrote:I wonder how effective gunstars would really be in a contest such as this. Uhh. Are we even talking about the same thing? We have seen the Gunstar pull some astounding manuvers, even at high speeds inside a cave network of an asteroid.Perinquus wrote:Not as maneuverable as a TIE fighter. Are you feeling alright? The Gunstar flew through a rock tunnel that made the TESB asteroid chase look tame. It's able to pull off barrel rolls, flips, and sudden turns with ease.Perinquus wrote:Not as maneuverable as a TIE fighter. Are we talking about the same Gunstar? This is the one from "The Last Starfighter"

Not by much. Grig mentioned that the prototype had a better afterburner with less fuel cost. And it was being used as the DEATH BLOSSOM testbed.Alyeska wrote:I wonder how "inferior" the standard Gunstars were.
Although this is true, it doesn't apply to the Gunstar. The Gunstar, although bulky, is by no means a slow, poorly manueverable craft.I wonder how effective gunstars would really be in a contest such as this. Gunstars also seem to have the ability to engage targets in any direction given the way its weapons are set up

The Spitfire, however, can do them even better.
The Gunstar has shown manueverability that puts Ties to shame.Perinquus wrote:So is an ME110.IG-88E wrote:Are you feeling alright? I have to disagree. The TIE interceptors chasing Lando and Wedge into the DS2 were dodging, turning and jinking faster than I ever saw the gunstar do.Alyeska wrote:The Gunstar has shown manueverability that puts Ties to shame.Perinquus wrote:So is an ME110.IG-88E wrote: Are you feeling alright? Try rewatching the asteroid scene in The Last Starfighter. The Gunstar pulled some damned amazing manuevers.Perinquus wrote:I have to disagree. IMHO the only fighter the Empire could throw at it one on one, and possibly be sucessfull, would be a skipray blast boat.... decent manuverability and speed. great shields and hull and serious firepower.
