Anakins Dreams/Premonitions

Post by Death from the Sea »

I was wondering does anyone else here think it is highly plausible that Palpatine used the force to give Anakin his premonitions about Padme dying to make Anakin seek a way to save her, thereby giving him the opening to slide in with the miracle answer?....

even the premonitions of his mother could have been produced by Palpatine to get Anakin to start his slide to the darkside. He was afterall on a mission and left during it to go seek out his mother because of his dreams...

we never hear Vader speak of seeing the future or having premonitions in the OT, so why just in those two cases in which it really put Anakin on the track to the darkside and running to save Palpatine.????

In my opinion, no.
I think they're actual premonitions of possible futures brought through the currents of the Force, not unlike what Luke experienced on Dagobah (regarding his friends on Bespin).

Of course, "ever in motion is the future", so they aren't guaranteed predictions. The fact that Anakin's premonitions of Padme's death ended up setting into motion events that would make Anakin himself cause her death is nicely done imo.

I think that Palpatine probably did give Anakin his premonition (at least about Padme, if not his mother). The fact that Padme's death wouldn't have happened (or probably would have occurred differently at any rate) without the premonition makes it more difficult for me to believe that it came more naturally from the Force.

An intriguing question is whether Vader can farsee as a cyborg. I don't recall in OT whether he actually makes any statement that indicates he farsaw anything. Everything about the future is parsed in a way that indicates that these are the Emperor's visions.

"You can destroy the Emperor he has foreseen this."

"Truly you are powerful as the Emperor has foreseen."
Wherever you go, there you are.

It's possible but in my opinion pretty doubtful. It seems more likely that Palpatine simply knew what was coming and set the trap accordingly.

Since he can use the force normally, why would he be denied that? I think he just has no real talent for it.

Or else it's something he never saw the point in developing.

This makes a lot of sense when you consider that the first time he had a vision, he couldn't help anything, and the second time he had one, he ended up losing everything.
